The parents suffer a fate worse than death. They must everyday be judged, ridiculed, questioned and blamed for what their children did. I bet they torture themselves. Eric and Dylan suffer no more. The students killed, the teacher killed, they aren't suffering. The ones left alive, the wounded and the parents, they are the victims that are still living. That is worse than death.

There should have been no blame on the parents. Sue's book details her trip to the hairdresser right after the shootings. It was part of her regular routine and her lawyer suggested she keep it so she could try and stay as normal as possible. The Harris' and the Klebold families are equally victims, yet in separate ways. Dylan's first cousin who lived in another state at the time was so traumatised she was diagnosed with PTSD. Everyone around them suffered because of their actions.

Carol Rezende No I don't read books from people that went to high school or were related in some way to the killers. Those are largely unreliable or exaggerated. I respect Sue Klebold but everyone else is full of shit. I read scientific studies and FBI reports and analysis from top experts in their respective fields that conclude that Eric was a textbook example of a psychopath and how Dylan was suffering from major depressive disorder, which you clearly can't see. Eric being 5'8 had zip to do with anything. I'm 5'7 and even I'm not "bullied" and all my friends are 6'0+. I'm not bragging but girls don't even care about my height, most of them are shorter anyways, like 5'2. So Eric probably got turned down because he was a fucking weirdo and everyone knew he had issues Here's some references: www.psychologytoday.com/blog/keeping-kids-safe/200905/columbine-bullying-and-the-mind-eric-harris www.policeone.com/active-shooter/articles/7094927-Looking-into-the-minds-of-Eric-Harris-and-Dylan-Klebold/ The articles talk about how Dylan was depressed and had aspirations, and how he would've been so much better off without that asshole Eric.

What it means is that if the people who bullied Eric and Dylan had already graduated, then they had already graduated and that leaves a multitude of people who didn't pick on them in the school. And the revenge you talk about might not even happen at all, and even if it does happen, they might not even see it that way. terrorsquadlith. the bullies and their parents are culpable to an extent, yes. bullying itself is a type of psychopathy no one wants to address. then take into account the fact that school officials did nothing to stop the bullying and nothing to protect the targets. Another form of mental illness is to have knowledge of children being abused/assaulted/harrassed on a daily basis and do nothing. that's called being an accomplice. it's also a crime. the very job of the adults involved was to ensure the safety of all the children, not just the kids of powerful people in the community and to hell with the other kids. when something boils over, ah well, it was a coping problem by the perps, that's all, nothing more to see here..... I don't think so. there's a lot of responsibility not being appropriated and I wonder why. there's also many inconsistencies with the official story, few straight answers. Eric was allegedly raped by a member of the police department, perhaps more than once and not sure but may have involved other law enforcement officials. so, of course he had little trust in going to them for help. I don't condone what happened and wish none of this ever happened, but I can't overlook that this was preventable. perhaps the parents truly didn't know, but people at that school, officials and fellow students, did know! jokes were made about Eric being sexually assaulted, and NO ONE stepped up to help those kids. ah well, they were weird, bullying is normal, teachers never intercede unless your parents hold power in the community, it was all on eric, dylan and potentially others involved in the attack. psych meds played no part whatsoever, that's impossible. everything was lily white clean and normal and it had nothing to do with any other factors at all, ever, case slammed closed. move on. hope everyone is good with that explanation and please don't be shocked should this happen again. If I was aware of what was happening, I would immediately contact the parents of Eric and Dylan and tell them pull your kids out of that school, your sons aren't safe there and the school officials are aware of the problems and won't do anything. I'd also contact the other parents of bullied kids and tell them the same thing. that could have been a publicity nightmare that the community would have to address and perhaps a productive solution could have been obtained, but no. it's far easier to do nothing. it's always easier to do nothing. then scratch your head and lament how you can't comprehend such a violent outcome. all the while people in that school witnessed and took part in violence every day. I guess that's the uncomfortable part, no did anything to stop what was occurring and then couldn't stop what ultimately occurred.

Like many others, I thought that there had to have been something very wrong in those boys' homes for something like that to happen. I've only started to recently read about Columbine and, while I'm seeing things that both Dylan and Erics' parents could have done differently, there is nothing that I have seen so far that would lead me to blame the parents for what happened. They loved their kids, they were involved parents, their kids were busy with school, PT jobs, they had friends. The same thing can be said for the school, I just do not see how the environment at the school was so toxic that Eric and Dylan felt compelled to randomly slaughter their classmates. None of what happened made a bit of sense. Dylan and Eric were not victims of external forces, this evil came from within.
@JordanWilliams-ix2td

Eric & Dylan were most def victims of external forces, They were not born evil. When Eric was in NY the kids accepted him for who he was. he wrote the sweetest things in friends yearbook before moving. you could tell he was actually Sweet, loving, Appreciated people & seemed happy. The min. he went to Columbine he became a completely diff person. so hateful & evil. There's a Video of Dylan & Eric walking in the hallway laughing & talking. There was a group of "popular" kids & the min they passed them they looked down & stopped laughing & talking, Theyre vibe completely changed. Dylans early journal writings were very sweet, self aware & wanting love. Dylan was very personabl, helpful & known to make people laugh & had no problem speaking to anyone kids still rejected him. not condoning what they did its still fuck you forever they killed kids who didnt even bother them but they were most def bullied

There were external forces like the school culture based on discrimination and bullying but the main forces came from within. They both had personality disorders. Eric was a psychopath and Dylan a borderline. They intoxicated each other with their stored anger and Eric intoxicated Dylan's permeable and unstable personality which is typical in BPD with his own prejudices and absolute hate against society.

@quasiphatpaul I think he meant that they would have attend College if they didn't do what they did. I would have loved to have seen what they did with computer games. It's too bad they did such a terrible act. They could have done so much with their lives.

@guitar241990 I agree with this. Bullying is wrong, it hurts people, but to do what Dylan and Eric did was not the right way to handle bullying.

Their parents missed the signs of their kids struggles and depression. The school failed them as well because if they was being bullied why didn't anyone step in and do anything before Dylan and Eric made such a disastrous decision?

Dylan’s mom said they never noticed anything, sadly. But for Eric he was on anti depressants so they must have known at least something. The parents would have been the ones that received the multiple police reports against Eric about his website where he threatened people...

How would the outcome be the same if they were bullied but didn't kill anyone who bullied them? Knowing what people mean when they talk about Columbine doesn't mean that they died for something. What did they die for? Fame? That's a pretty trivial thing to kill people over.

As much as everyone wants to completely blame the patents it was not them it was there kids! And even if they thought there kids were weird and a bit abnormal I'm sure they never considered there kids to be killers ! Unfortunately they should have seen some signs ! I think that if my son was arressted like they were I would definitely be keeping a close eye and checking for journals & searching his room as an parent who loves there child would! It's to sad! Between them being so bullied and ver

@KoreaRwkz I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. I sympathize with kids who are bullied, I was bullied for years. I had regular stomachaches because I did not want to go to school. I have never attended a class reunion. But I never wanted to kill my tormentors as a result. The best revenge is to survive and live a happy life in spite of the past, and maybe even be a voice for other victims. These two DIED. They threw away their opportunity to truly change anything.

@6adassChick Have you ever been in total emotional shock? Reality doesn't sink in right away, and you cling to familiar routines to preserve any shred of normalcy. It looks pretty cold, yes, but neither you nor I know what was going on in that woman's mind or heart. She was probably just trying to keep herself sane.

I feel bad for their families. I did a report on the two boys and honestly, I think whether or not they tried to control Eric and Dylan, these guys were adament on doing what they did. There's nothing that could have stopped them. They were way too disturbed. And I think it's horrible that people tormented the families. They lost a child too, it was still their baby and they weren't always bad. They didn't come out worshiping Hitler. And this is something the families will have to live with.
