The actor, humanitarian, and author Hill Harper sat down recently with the nationally renowned Detroit journalist and public intellectual Bankole Thompson, for a wide ranging conversation in Detroit, one of the nation's largest Black cities about the towering and enduring legacy of the late entertainer and civil rights hero Harry Belafonte.
Harper, who is founder of the Manifest Your Destiny Foundation, and Thompson, the executive dean of The PuLSE Institute and a twice-a-week opinion columnist at The Detroit News, met on June 13, 2023, for a public conversation on the state of Detroit and Black America at the downtown Detroit campus of Wayne County Community College District. The two discussed the impact that Belafonte, a trusted confidant of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., had not only on the Civil Rights Movement but also on Hollywood before a standing room-only crowd at the college's Frank Hayden Community Room.
