Don't care what anyone says Letterman is was/is king of the talk shows. A legend interviewing a legend. Harry comes off so sweet here. Such a great talent and character. Happy 90th Birthday Harry!

I'm an Australian and I certainly knew who Harry Dean Stanton was. He was one really talented character actors. He died 15th September 2017, aged 91. Sometimes in the movie credits he would be noted as Harry Dean Stanton and other times Dean Stanton. He made an impression on me.

Harry Dean Stanton is great, a warm and lovable man, but was there really no conversation about his work in Paris, Texas, other than that silly photo mix-up, or is the interview clip edited? Stanton played that role so beautifully. It’s a pity not seizing the opportunity to hear him talk about that.

This is another example of why Dave was ten times cooler than Johnny: HDS had never been invited on a talk show before??? One reason Harry seems so "nervous" is because there was absolutely NOTHING phony or "Hollywood" about him. Sean Penn wishes he was HDS. Don't just watch Repo Man (an insanely underrated movie.) Rent the DVD and watch the interviews, including the one with Harry.

I have the NBC repeat from 30 September 1985 (IIRC) somewhere in my tapes- believe it was the 12:30 repeat when new episode was at 11:30 after Carson anniversary show
@dongiller
7 жыл бұрын
The 12:30 repeat that aired on 30 September (after, you're correct, the 11:30 new show due to Carson's prime time anniversary special) was from May 16, 1985, the final L.A. show with Carson as guest, plus Lee Marvin and L.A. Mayor Tom Bradley.

I threw the IIRC in- knew the Clayderman/Stanton show was a Monday repeat in '85? I think- have it with the repeat scroll they used at time

Not a diss- by any measure, Don- I truly appreciate your service to this- just recalled it was a Monday repeat at some point in '85 and was incorrect- I always think of Monday September 30 , 1985 as the day Howard Stern got let go from WNBC

Weirdly, the man himself wasn't all that interesting. He partied with Nicholson a lot, had a good face for movies, and that was about it. No spouse, no kids and in the end couldn't give a shit about himself or what he left behind.

He apparently was lots of fun, just was a leading man twice & that was his first interview or did you miss that? Had many great times, but he had more spiritual views of being in the present moment & remaining unattached to possessions & people. He never saw himself being a Southern Baptist family man like his brothers. But I see he dearly loved people. Not a perfect human being, but a lovely heart. He ,eft memories & kindnesses done to others behind, like when he went to Hawaii to play music with Willie Nelson, but he wouldn’t tell you that!
