Also what I think is brilliant about this movie is it does not just show romantic love. In my opinion the movie shows that the sister loved her brother more than the man she loved at work. So that's her Love. Emma Thompson loved her children , to the point of staying in the marriage for them. And Liam Neeson learns how to build his own relationship and Love Sam. I could be wrong, but that's how I always see their stories.

The actress that plays Natalie was getting bullied in the press over her weight, so the film leaned hard into those jokes to point out how ridiculous it was. In the original script Rowan Atkinson’s role was described as an angel which is why in both his scenes he just appears with the purpose of protecting love, letting the kid see the american girl in the airport and hindering Rickman in buying the necklace. That is so heartbreaking. This guy I started dating turned out to have a FIANCÉ that ended up writing back to me because she had no clue who I was. She stayed with him for a little while but they ended up splitting up and he then tried to reach out to me again as though we could just start back up... needless to say that did NOT happen 😂🤣😂 It is insane what people will do to people they supposedly love, or at least loved at SOME point, and have build a life with. The crazy thing is, Alan got Emma a genuinely thoughtful and personal gift, while he got the secretary just "something pretty" that he picked in a hurry, which says a lot about how he feels about said relationships. Doesn't take away from the pain of betrayal, though. Emma crying alone in her room was just one of the most heartbreaking scenes :(
@ajnids6422
Жыл бұрын
But it was what the assistant wanted, and it was expensive enough. And not necessarily thoughtful, she’s just declared her love for Joni Mitchell and he got her a Joni Mitchell cd, it could be as you said, I’ve never considered that, but I always thought of it as just an easy or possibly even lazy option - He could have gotten them both for his wife, sometimes she might want something pretty too 🤷♀️ Completely agree though, that scene was brilliantly done 😊
@itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118
11 ай бұрын
I don't know if you agree or not but the way I see is that he's fallen out of love with his wife, is no longer sexually attracted to her but still loves her in a nonromantic way. She told him she loved Joni Mitchell and he cared enough to remember that when picking a gift. The wife makes a joke that he always gives her a scarf every christmas because he doesn't want to put in the effort to think of something else. He wants to bang his secretary (the secretary pursues him knowing he is married, her moral compass is obviously defective. I also got the impression she doesn't love him either), but doesn't seem in love with her. The necklace was a sign that their relationship would be taken to the next level (physical). The end of the movie is a bit confusing because we don't really know if him and his wife are still together. I looked for an answer and the original script says they are still together but their home life just isn't as good as it once was.

My big flaw with the film was all the fat shaming. The wreck of the necklace was that if not for that, the Joni Mitchell album would have meant the world to her as it showed he listened to her. The song playing is important as well. Joni wrote "Both Sodes Now" near the beginning of her career, which was inspired by her first plane flight. "I've looked at clouds from both sides now" (below and above). She re-recorded it fir her final studio album, which was the gift. The lines. "I've looked at life/love from both sides now" has extra resonance in the scene and in the remake of the song.

watched it yesterday for the first time at the movie theatre actually and I must say it's a very touching story and actually a very well made movie. Shows so many different kinds of love and not only sexual/ romantic love. The way all these stories came together in the end as well was just perfect❤

The fact that Alan and Emma were really good friends in real life brings even more emotions to this movie! I love them both so much! 2 of my all time favorite actors! So talented! ❤️❤️❤️ And Hugh Grant is so funny as always! 😅🤣❤️🙌🏻 And I love Andrew Lincoln and Liam Neeson! ❤️ What a cast! The scene with Rowan & Alan 🤣, the one where Emma is crying 😔😭 and when Hugh is dancing 😅 are my 3 favorite scenes of the movie! ❤️🔥🙌🏻

I think the whole joke of the Milwaukee scene is that everyone who's actually from the Midwest knows that's the opposite of how it really is! 😄

Since you love Martin Freeman, have you watched Sherlock? If not, that would be a great series to react to.

Another Last Man on Earth fan, checking in! : ) Love Actually is truly a land of contrasts, from the typical romantic comedies of Natalie/David and Jamie/Aurelia to Karen's heartwrenching storyline to the absolute cartoon that is Colin's trip to America. Glad you enjoyed it!

So the writer had the scene in Wisconsin written to be kind of a fever dream on purpose. They got to set, and the American actresses said that they could do better. They amped up their lines to make them into what was actually shot.

What a great reaction. I loved when you guys said the other two are goi g to be mad they did t watch. I knew it the minute I saw that it was only two of you. FYI fun fact- the prime minister Natalie relationship and Billy Bob p,aging the president was supposed to be a Bill Clinton type character and at the end when she jumps into Hugh grants arms she is dressed like Monica Lewinsky in the red coat and white beret. So glad you guys watched and enjoyed.

The scene with Rowan and Alan in the jewelry section is, according to Richard Curtis, the *actor* Rowan actually driving the *actor* Alan insane. Rowan would do 10-11 MINUTE takes, longer and longer, and Alan, fed up with filming at 3am, finally had enough XD

I love this film and I'm not really a big fan of rom coms, but this one is just great with all the different stories and all the actors were perfect. One of my favorite scenes was when Bill Nighy declared his love to his manager. Another rom com I can recommend is Man Up with Simon Pegg, that one is hilarious.

Yes!! This is my favorite Christmas movie! I'm only like 2 minutes in, but the "This is rated R? Oh I bet there's some swearing and that's why" comment has me dying! 😂 I can already tell this is gonna be good.

Rowan Atkinson’s (mr bean) character is meant to be a Christmas angel in a sense. When Alan Rickman is buying the necklace because angels can’t interfere with free will Rowan can’t stop Alan from buying it but he can make him take a long time and really think if it is the right thing to do.

Not sure how many people have noticed, but Karl (Sarah’s crush) is Xerxes in 300! I would never have put it together if I wasn’t just on IMDb the first time I saw this movie, he’s so different! Love the reaction, y’all made the movie even more fun to watch than it already was.

This has nothing to do with the movie but I thought you could also start watching anime, starting by the miyazaki's movies by ghibli (spirited away, howl's moving castle, mononoke) they are classics and with a lot of depth and they are also very poetic. It could introduce you to anime and animated movies if some haven't watched any. I advise starting by spirited away but be careful with how you edit the video because ghibli is tough with copyright. Happy new year to everyone 💜

I've watched this movie so many many times and I still love it. My favourite love development is Liam Neeson and Sam. Bill Nighy has the best character, Emma Thompson is the best actor and Martin Freeman has the funniest storyline. I really wish Oak had watched this with you, I think he'd have loved it too.

This is one of my favourite movies. Not just of Christmas movies, but all movies. It might not be a masterpiece, but I still love it. It would have been nice to see all four of you reacting to it, but this was fun anyway. I'm so glad you didn't overly analyze and moralize it - that is unfortunately frustratingly common nowadays. People aren't perfect and flawless in real life, why should they be like that in movies? We all make mistakes. And maybe some scenes and storylines were quite unreal, but that makes the movie fun. 😄 Btw, I see the scene / storyline with Juliet (Knightley) and Mark (Lincoln) exactly the same way as you did. Mark tried to hide his feelings and overcome them, but since he was busted, he decided to come clean and after that move on. He didn't mean to steal his friend's wife. And what Juliet did... Maybe she was relieved that his husband's best friend didn't hate him as she thought and the kiss was just something nice she wanted to do, but that was it. It shouldn't be overanalyzed or judged as a villain thing to do.

I think you completely misunderstood the scene between Juliet and Mark. Mark comes to Juliet with the tags to admit his feelings but at the same time to signal to Juliet that everything is ok, that he will get over it and that his friendship with her and his best friend is the most important thing to him. Juliet then runs after him and gives him this kiss out of gratitude and to give him courage and affirmation to go his own way. It's sort of the beginning of a great friendship between the two of them. I think the scene is great. I realy hate that you didnt take a look at this beautiful movie all together 😢 but I liked your reaction .

As a caretaker, I always related to Sara's story. Fun facts: Hugh Grant absolutely refused to do the dance scene. They had to basically threaten him with his contract responsibilities. Mr. Bean improvised taking his time. Alan Rickman was legitimately pissed in that scene. I loved watching you guys enjoy the movie. One of my faves. It's a Christmas movie in the same way as Die Hard is. Emma Thompson deserved an Oscar for that bedroom scene.

Not sure if you caught it or not as you never mentioned it, but Emma Thompson was also Professor Trelawney (Divination Teacher) in Harry Potter. So you had Snape married to Trelawney!

Have to say, i've always seen it as Alan Rickman's character was flirting with the infidelity but hadn't gone any further than the necklace, hense the "classic fool", not a "unmitigated arsehole" and that's the reason emma was able to stay in the "relationship" for the kids, even though they were both now unhappy and untrusting.

the movie is somewhat problematic, but it has been one of my favorite movies since i watched it 20 years ago. i usually watch it every christmas. the dumb jokes make me laugh every time, and emma thompson crying in her room because of the joni mitchell cd makes me cry every time. my favorite line is one you cut out of the edit - emma thompson saying "there was more than one lobster present at the birth of jesus?" 😂😂😂
