Mr. Truman never forgot where he came from, these modern Presidents could learn from him.

Truman was a simple man who did not forget his roots. He loved sitting on his back porch reading with his wife Bess. We can all learn from him.

We were living in Kansas City, MO when the Truman home was first opened to the pubic and loved being among the first to be able to go through it. There were nails in the wall above the kitchen table, and toaster, with food tongs hanging on them. Former President Truman used the tongs to retrieve hot toast out of the toaster. His hat and coat we’re hanging on a coat rack in an adjacent room as if he and Bess were still alive. The upstairs was closed to the public because his daughter, Margaret, still stayed up there when she was In Independence, MO. Most of the displays in this short video were not yet there. It was uniquely interesting as was the nearby Truman Museum, Library, and grave sites.

I've visited the Truman Summer White House in Key West, FL which is also quite interesting. Thanks for your tour of their Independence home, library, NPS center & graves. We could definitely use more politicians with his character and leadership ability today!

I agree to me I was visiting where President Truman lived but it was the Wallace House. That is what makes our history interesting.

I have visited the Truman home and also the library. At the time Margaret Truman Daniel was living, and while the house belonged to the Park Service, the will stipulated that the upstairs rooms remained private for Margaret’s personal use until her death, so only the first floor could be seen at that time. Even the photographs of the once private portion of the house that are shown here would have been unavailable to be seen. Margaret died in 2008, since then most of the rest of the house has been made available to the public. In one way, it should be called the Wallace home, since as this mentions, Harry and Bess moved into and lived the rest of their lives in Bess’s mother’s home. Had it been up to Mrs. Wallace there is no doubt in my mind that the house would have retained the name Wallace. Bess’ mother never felt Harry was good enough for her daughter, even after he became president of the U.S.

He came in at a difficult time and led us to victory. The buck truly stopped with him.
