Should use a plastic container to seal up the honey and not let them out till cut and extract the honey.

Why do they call them supers???
@birdnestfarms
2 ай бұрын
@@deborahhowe4595 I assume they are called “supers” because they go on top of the beehive. I base that assumption on the Latin meaning to “go beyond”, “over”, “on top of”, or “added to”.

That was interesting, you were simply trying to extract honey and were swarmed with a neighboring hive. I guess if you extract in the garage or in your kitchen, all doors and windows must be closed, woow, good demo!

Thank you. I usually extract in the evenings when the bees are not out foraging. On that day we extracted early in the day, and we paid the price for it. The bees robbed almost two supers worth of honey.

Hello from Houma!! Is the dark honey because of fall harvest or because of the flowers they forage from??
@birdnestfarms
8 ай бұрын
Hello there. My understanding is that both are correct. The spring flow for many beekeepers is much lighter and more of a golden color verses a fall flow which is much darker. The reason for the color difference is because of the available flowers in bloom during various seasons. We pull our honey in the fall which is a combination of both spring and fall honey. On another note, watching the different pollen colors is very interesting. You can see this throughout several of the videos. Thanks for the comment!

I think this is the most complete harvest video I’ve seen. Lots of people don’t even bother to film this part & jump to processing the honey. I love that more myself so I understand why people cut it out. Still it’s nice to see the work that goes into a jar of honey. Also I love bees now 🤷🏻♀️🥰

Thank you for the wonderful comment. I agree, harvesting honey is a ton of work but the reward of gifting an appreciative friend with a bottle of honey from your own hives makes it all worth it!

The only thing I will change going forward is to bolt the extractor down to something. When spinning, the extractor wobbles quite alot at times.

Kids love to be part of the process. Similar to gardening, they feel immense pride when seeing the "fruits of their labor".
