My friend Rick planted a little winged yam (also known as "ube" or "name" or Philippine yam) bulbil in a pot at the bottom of a pine tree, where it proceeded to climb at least 30'.
My friend Mart and I were at his place when he decided to harvest it. I just had to capture the fun on camera.
Talk about an easy-to-grow staple root crop! Winged yams are like the ultimate survival/prepper root crop. Plant it and walk away. Best of all, this type of white winged yam tastes like a good russet potato. Homegrown French fries!
