I don't get this one. I've been trying to learn Japanese for quite some time, now, and I've become very accustomed to putting the verb at the end of the sentence. I thought that was pretty much the main feature of how a Japanese sentence works. I now can squat for hours while smoking. I now pretend to be asleep on trains during rush hours despite the ojisan tapping my foot with a cane. I now admire the dexterity it takes women to apply make up while on a train. I now believe that mobile phone charms and accessories in sufficient quantity are in fact a modern ninja's weapon. I now hunt down specific types of ramen in convenience shops even if it requires a cross-ring commute. I just moved to Japan and I'm used to bringing my own bag whenever I go shopping. However, every time I go to my local konbini the older woman is extremely insistent that I take a plastic bag and there is a tension between us every time I reach the counter. Often she asks twice, once at the start of the transaction and once when I'm packing my bag. I've gone from a polite 大丈夫です, to a flat いいえ, in the hopes she will get the message. I'm afraid she will eventually use one to asphyxiate me if I keep refusing. But this is war and I will win.

Have you tried all your options? You can try 結構です or 持ってるんで!or 要りません or 無しで or いらんよ, and they'll still mishear you sometimes. In some stores, they're trained to ask you multiple times just to be safe. I find the method that works best is to shake your head sideways while making a "wipers-on-the-bus-go -swish-swish-swish" motion with your dominant hand. Gestures reign supreme.
