Did you know that the average US wage in Babe Ruth's era in the 1920's was $3200 per year. The average Baseball Player in 1920 earned $5000 a season + they made more barnstorming in the offseason. So, I don't think Babe Ruth was hitting off Plumbers and Farmers. They were earning 1.5 -- 2X The US average income. ALSO -- The live ball era was started from a fatal accident on the mound. A pitcher who used too much tobacco juice and dirt to disguise the ball one day, threw intentionally at a batter who never saw it coming. The batter died in the hospital of a fractured skull. This was 1918-20 or so. After that incident, the league president (judge Landis?) decided to implement a couple of new rules. Only bright colored, highly visible baseballs could be used, no foreign substances could be used on the ball, and balls had to be swapped out after being roughed up or significantly scuffed. The average HR rate of the league doubled the year after these rules went into effect. And Babe Ruth saw his own HR rate double from 29 to 54. If you look at his AB and PA stats for 19-20 they are basically Identical. That's why I concluded the rules allowed his rate to double.

I am a huge young Angel's fan that grew up seeing Vladimir Guerrero play awesome in his final years. When he left and heard of Mike Trout I was speechless. When he started to play I was just so happy and to see it being true. For me I am looking foward to Mike Trouts next season since I am hoping he stays healthy. If he does I can see him break Judges home run record. Trout literally got 40 home runs while injured alot of the time. I could see him get 70 if the season was serious with also helping Ohtani for them both to get them to the playoffs and the team as a whole. I can see Ohtani doing Trout similar numbers since he is learning from the best and has learned from the best himself playing with Albert. I also heard Alebert may be helping players too since he has contract, so he may still be helping Ohtani as well. The trades and buys this early for the Angel's have been very interesting and seems pretty good so far. The Angel's have some solid pitching now and will be interesting if any other backup pitcher from munirs steps up as a reliver or extra starter like last year. There are also some minor league players pushing through to make something and others fighting there way back to help. Matt Thaiss and Soto will be fun to see. Matt needs more accuracy since he has power and Soto just needs to keep proving himself for a spot. Finally, the final players on the team with no permanent spot will need to keep proving who keep who spot. This will be story season for the ages of what players will stay in certain positions, who will go, who will fight hard, and how this team will end with Ohtani staying, having a new owner, and will they get good players to fill those nessary gaps to fight hard and against injuries since many did get hurt. This next season will be rollcoaster but I think one that I will never forget. Thanks for the content and reading my rant lol. I subbed.

I get WAR is a great metric but I do not believe Trout was robbed when Miggy won. There are many ways to assess the player's value and back then Miggy was the most dangerous hitter in the league and it wasn't even close. His bat really impact how the oppositions were pitching around the Detroit lineup. This kind of impact doesn't get captured in WAR. Sabermetrics been great for baseball but teams who pioneered this approach never won the chip. So you do need to mix and match both sabermetrics and traditional metrics to find the balance in between.

I’d put him in the top 5 batters of all time. Wish he was more known, but I put that down to the incompetence that is the Anaheim (no never LA) Angles. Put him on a team that makes the playoffs come hat consistently and he’d have even more of a legacy in the mainstream. The guy could retire today and I’d put him in first ballot.

Baseball is so dead and unpopular these days..these superstars, even Mike Trout, will only be remembered by die hard baseball fans 15 yrs from now. They need to change the game, the rules and regulations. The "sacred game of Americas pasttime" needs to evolve, desperately, or itll only be a pasttime. Move the mound back 6 inches, use juiced balls, play 20 games a month April, May, June, & July and start the postseason in August..3 game series and 5 game world series. All i hear is "baseball takes too long" and thats why nobody watches. WRONG. BASEBALL IS TOO BORING..ding ding ding. People want action, hits, and homeruns. Unless youre a diehard fan, the casual fan isnt entertained by a 1-0 pitching duel or a 3-1 game. Americans watch football ALL DAY GAME AFTER GAME ON SUNDAYS, AND WHEN A 3 HOUR GAMES OVER, WE PUT ON THE NEXT 3 HOUR GAME. 12HRS CONSECUTIVE OF FOOTBALL, BUT MOST CANT WATCH 1 THREE HOUR BASEBALL GAME...BECAUSE ITS BORING, NOT BC IT TAKES 3 HOURS.
@TheDiamondBaseball

Yeah, pace of play was never the issue, it has always been the amount of action in the games. Three true outcome baseball may be optimized for scoring runs and winning games, but it can get incredibly boring. I disagree that baseball is a “dying” sport for the most part, but are things that need to be done to liven the game up again and get kids interested in it again.

@@jimclaus1576 I think the fastest player in MLB history -- who actually used it well -- was Rickey Henderson. The Fastest man in the MLB since 2010 is Tim Locastro, but he is only a utility player. For Full time Starters, it's gonna be Buxton I think. Buxton is pretty damn fast. Mickey Mantle was one fast guy in his youth. Some of his triples are still on film. For fat guys, the fastest ever was Babe Ruth. That guy was like Prince Fielder size, but just look at the old films of him running out triples and even inside the park HR. He also played a prime speed position as an outfielder.

As someone who watched baseball around this era, I'm afraid you're off. His team has always held him back and frankly, he has never had that big of an impact on the game as a whole until baseball had already well recovered from the steroid era. His problem is that his team has sucked so no one sees him as the straw that stirs the drink. I'd argue the Giants 2010,12,14 dynasty had much more of an impact on the actual revenue of the game
@TheDiamondBaseball
2 жыл бұрын
I can see where you're coming from on the first part, as we all want to see him in October, but I would disagree on your latter point. Even as a fan in the NL West, I rarely ever hear about those teams/World Series - especially compared to others around that time (particularly 15 and 16). More relevantly, Mike Trout gets brought up way more than any of those World Series. Also, I'm not sure what revenue has to do with any of this, but I'm also quite sure his jersey sales and ticket sales from people coming specifically to see him would beg to differ with that point as well.

@GlorifiedTruth

It isn't really a joke, though. The replacement level player of Babe Ruth's day was far worse than those in Trout's. It was easier to be better than average for guys like Cobb and Ruth. This doesn't mean they wouldn't have been great players in any generation, just that WAR figures for great players in their day were somewhat inflated.
@TheDiamondBaseball
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely. And it’s why I think guys from that era are usually ranked higher than they should on “greatest of all time” lists. Like yeah, Ruth completely changed the game and dominated his era, but saying he is better than Mays, Aaron, Bonds, or Trout is a bit like saying Bob Cousy is the greatest point guard of all time
@GlorifiedTruth
2 жыл бұрын
@@TheDiamondBaseball Yes! And if you say that, people think you're somehow crapping on Ruth! I readily accept he was the greatest player of all time, for the reasons you cite and for his great skill.
