Very helpful. The A12 does seem nice and convenient, but if the main difference is in loading I may chose to save some money.

Yes, but make sure you find one in decent condition with good light seals.

Thanks so much for this video Jonathan. I recently inherited a 645 12-on back for my Hasselblad and this was helpful because my other back is a normal A12

In the USA we called those peephole or porthole backs. I started using Hasselblad in 1972 and we had a mix of 12's, A-12's and one 70mm back. Good system camera. Great camera system.

Thx for this video, it was helpful as I am new to this device. For those reading this, the number "1" may look like a dash "-" on some films, I was not sure if it was a dash or a 1 so I kept winding the film, then the number "2" appeared :) Mah, that's how we learn sometimes ;)

Great video! I I recently acquired a 500cm and it had 2 backs. An A12 and 12 On film backs. I’ve only put maybe 10 rolls through them but I actually prefer the 12 On back. It like the extra “bit of process” on it. Especially when shooting with the Hasselblad I like the little quirk’s

@@WorldwideCameraExchange ah, nice! You've got everything :D also saw in the comments answer to the question I had: any generation of screen might have a split image. Thanks!

Both standard and acute matte are available with spilt image. Also look at the Beattie screens. Very bright and maybe a bit more common than some of the Hasselblad screens.

Damn! Just wasted half roll! Because the older one doesn't have automatic stop! Now I got it, really a lesson.

Just rolled through half a roll of film because my A12 didn't stop on the first frame, so don't take these for granted. Now I need to get it repaired.

Hasselblad, like anything else mechanical, does need to be serviced. I’m sure the issue you describe will be sorted with a service. It might be worth getting your bodies and lenses looked at too. As you say, you can’t just take for granted. Look after it and it’ll serve you well for decades.

Hey Jonathan! I have an A12 Mark 2 back from the late 80s and the other day my light seal came loose and made a big black line on all of my photos :( Any advice on where I should send my film back out to be fixed, or any easy solutions that you know of? Much appreciated, I love your videos, they're incredibly helpful! Thank you!

Thank you for this video, but i am wondering do I have to wind the camera before I load the A12 film back? I tried to wind the camera after I load the A12 and the result was losing 1 frame...

Yes, the camera should be cocked when you mount the back. Download a user manual if you’re unsure.

I'm trying to figure out my 70mm back dated 1968 & papers in kit says 1971. I thought it said A70 but can't find on back. Ot has the A 12 style flip pit note holder but no peep hole (not needed for cassettes) bit instead it has rhe flip up winding of the older. Should frame Counter reser after opening & or removing rhen replace. It's staying at 18. A70 shows a secondary counter for the multiple of 10x

It should reset. I would recommend having it serviced by a Hasselblad repairer.

Video @ 3:38 "is it still worth buying these"? - Well YES ! - The older non-Auto reset units, are the only backs that allow a 'cheap' & simple modification for Pano 6x3 usage. With Hasselblad's # 41151 6X3 panoramic mask KIT, using a mod'ed 'Older' back C12, you'll get at least 20 beautiful 6x3 Pano images out of a roll of 120. - None of the A12 units will easily accommodate this modification. Using the Mask Kit with an A12 back, you'll use up a lot of film due to the wasteful wide spacing of just 12 Pano images....
