I have a Hasselblad Xpan which has been professionally sandblasted or whatever. The paint on these is notoriously flaky and without paint, it looks very good to me. Now it's champagne coloured titanium with all texts, logos and engravings intact, just as if it came that way from the factory. Not as good as a black original, but a mint one costs an arm and a leg and won't stay that way for long if you're actively using it.

XPAN is really expensive, but after watching your video, I really want to have one. Every time I watched your video, I want it more. So I bought the zine and then thr XPAN, so... maybe this video is a bit late:) I'm agree with that F4 is a problem in low light. And the repairs are also very expensive, I just spent 200 euros to repair the film transport system. But after all , it's a unique camera. It is a very beautiful thing to have it, and shoot with it. And I am looking forward to seeing the XPAN portrait video.

owned one for 2 years. Got them when they were cheap and sold it for twice as much as I paid for it. I did love it but it just became too much of a liability to own. I had stopped putting it in my camera bag because I didn't want to break it, so I sold it. I replaced it with a robust mechanical camera and a bag of lenses and pocketed the leftover money. I would buy this camera again for $1000 as a scale focus, mechanical camera, but I wouldn't even pay the $1700 I paid for mine originally again. My phones camera app supports shooting with cinematic aspect ratios so I just use that now when I crave that panorama shooting experience.

You keep comparing things like focal distance to the Leica. They're not the same and I'm sure you know that so stop saying it. You just compared the 45mm to a 28mm on a Leica. In the panoramic mode, the 45mm is about 24mm. And batteries? Really man? Digital shooters charge batteries or swap batteries all day every day. All you need is to change a cell after a very long time and you get metering which you wouldn't have without one.
@therealsirrobin
4 жыл бұрын
It's totally fine to compare the focal lengths. I use it for street photography and in case I want a half body shot of someone I have to roughly keep the same distance on the Xpan with the 45mm compared to a Leica with a 50mm. And in case you are not aware but the Xpan needs batteries otherwise you can't use it at all. Unlike other cameras that can still be used with one or two shutter speeds, the Xpan shutter needs batteries and film advance is also fully motorized.

I have tried it but be aware of some difficulties : you can’t focus using the telemeter (no coupling with the lens adapter) so you have to guess the distance ; you can’t really compose because the telemeter can’t show you the field of the 35 mm ; you must guess the frame at wide aperture but then set the desired aperture to have the lightmeter set the speed and the take the picture ; 35 mm is not 30 mm and you can’t really use the shift. do you think its possible for a digital camera to be designed with the X-PAN design? I would imagine a X100 body style where you cant change the lens allowing the camera company to make one lens for that one body as well. the main issue is to make a custom sensor that's 2 times longer than it's current version ... meaning a 2X APSC length. all this NOT to crop or i guess use the GX100 100MP image and crop in to panorama image which when i was trying to find information on how the camera actually works besides it using 2X 35mm film space to create the panorama image feel, someone comment saying that "its like medium format image cropped to look like a wide panorama image".
@therealsirrobin
5 жыл бұрын
The problem is that there isn't a sensor out there that is as wide as a negative shot with an Xpan. Even if you adapt the lens on an GFX 100 the sensor is too small in width. A dedicated digital Xpan would be awesome but it's unlikely that we will ever see one.

I like the look, but it is a specialty camera as I see it. Shooting film the alternative would be a medium-format image cropped to the same aspect ratio. But what about cropping a high-megapixel digital image to simulate the X-pan's double-wide format? *** I would like, for example, to see images from the Leica Q you have cropped to the same aspect ratio with comparisons.
@therealsirrobin
5 жыл бұрын
I am not a fan of cropping and cropping a medium format film would be a big waste of film and money. Like I said in the video, a medium format camera is not a good alternative, it's simply too big and heavy in comparison.

Please leave a comment if you want to get in touch with me. Also, I got four ears. I didn't really know where else to put those but on the back of my head. The doctor said he had to remove some of my brain to make room for them. But, judging by my grades in prep school he said I had way too much of that anyhow.
