Lovely compilation - thanks for posting. The ballroom was amazing back then. And you can see the coastal steamer that used to ferry people to Hastings from other places. I spent a lot of my childhood mucking about on the pier during the 80s when it was run down - the bingo and the amusements. Shame it's all been burnt down now.

thanks a fantastic view of the pier throughout the ages love the bandstand era vaguely remember that some great postcards ! as for the music think its good - sounds a bit like Joe Loss who appeared on the pier in the mid 60s I went to school with his son dead loss ha ha ! thanks again Alan

Thanks for your comment. The music was very carefully chosen to emphasise the jaunty playful nature of Piers. It's a 1956 Les Baxter reworking of a French song, 'La-goualante-de-pauvre' and it's about the pleasures of drinking, dancing and romance.
