Hasui Kawase (川瀬 巴水, Kawase Hasui?), born Bunjirō Kawase (川瀬 文治郎, Kawase Bunjirō) May 18, 1883 - November 7, 1957, was a Japanese painter and illustrator working in the print technique, famous especially for his landscapes. He is one of the most prolific and talented artists of the “Shin-Hanga” or pictorial revival movement. This movement was born under the aegis of the printer Watanabe Shozaburo in Tokyo in the 1920s who published nearly 600 of Hasui's works. Part of it was destroyed in the 1923 Tokyo earthquake.
