One credit clear longplay / playthrough / walkthrough & trueplay of World League mode from the Saturn port of the arcade game Hat Trick Hero '95 / Taito Power Goal. Sadly the last game in the series this Saturn version includes a number of extras not found in the original arcade release hence the name update. If like us you prefer arcade style football / soccer games on console over the more serious titles. Then this is without a doubt the best football game on the system and it's a huge shame it only had a Japanese release. It supports up to four players and allows for up to two players on a single side.
The Saturn version features four modes, Arcade, World League, Exhibition and Penalty Kick. All fairly straight forward World League (misspelt World Leage in-game) is a bit misleading as it sounds like a League mode, but it is in fact a world cup style tournament, that starts with a group round before entering a knock out stage. Arcade mode, is just a straight knock out tournament and at the end you have to play and beat the super team Max, their flag is Black with the face of a bear in red on it. Penalty Kick is a straight forward penalty face off, best of five balls before entering sudden death.
As this is an arcade style game it does allow for some cheeky, moves such as, punches, elbow barges, flying knees kicks and fly kicks, yes all moves that would be in a normal fair play football match errrr... While this is not the most serious game, it is a solid football title. There are a few complains no player radar or mini map, the default view is too zoomed in and the A.I. cheats like mad on the harder sitting. The game also picks the player you control and its choice of player isn't always the best, it also has a nasty habit of swapping between players rapidly in the penalty area, making defence impossible. Oh and don't even think about turning off the Goal Keeper A.I. as the game rarely lets you control the keeper in the danger area allowing the CPU to score with ease.
The CPU A.I. does have flaws of it's own hence why we largely score from the same angle in this one. There is also a sweet spot, near to where we shoot from, that will score a goal the keeper can't save.
While serious football fans may turn their noses up at the super move feature, it does make the game a lot of fun. What the game lacks is a proper league mode, to keep players coming back to it. Instead as it stands it's a great arcade game, but with no save feature, most of it's replay valve will come with playing with friends. A great sports game if you like the genre and there aren't many games where you can knock out the referee or cameramen in the match.
