In this introduction to life cycles, we will explore the birth, growth and development of Australian wildlife by meeting a mixture of egg layers, marsupials and other live-birthing animals.
Throughout the 'Hatchers and Growers' series we will:
🥚 Describe the different ways in which animals are born
🥚 Discuss how animals grow and change in different ways
🥚 Arrange animal life stages in order
🥚 Identify the basic needs of wild animals
🥚 Identify external features of animals and how these features assist in their survival
In this session, we will discuss the life cycle of reptiles 🔄🦎🐍🐢
🏡At-Home Challenge🏡
For this at-home challenge we would like you to find out as much as you can about the life cycle of your favourite animal!
1. Think of your favourite animal.
2. Does it lay eggs or give birth to live young?
3. Is there a special word for what we call this animal when it is a baby?
4. How long does the baby stay with its mother, or is it independent from birth?
5. How does the baby animal get its nutrients? What is the first thing it will eat?
6. How does the baby animal stay safe from predators?
7. Does this animal eat the same food for its whole life, or does it eat different food when it is an adult?
8. How old is this animal when it is able to have babies of its own?
