before starting to talk about 'fuel economy' of of hybrid cars you shall explain (nice topic for a video) how it is determined. I myself can not figure out. The reference "Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP)" test profile takes only 30min , and simulates distance of 53km with different speed. How do you test a hybrid car economy? with battery charged? empty? How it translates to real conditions? for me real condition is 1200km in 10h with 3 stops of 15 min. My diesel family car needs no refueling, and usually I end with gas for next 100km.

The only thing we have in common, is that we don't like to pay for fuel. For the rest, I hate hybrids. They are heavy, complex, expensive to repair and don't last 15 years. Still, I don't want to pay for fuel too many times. So, I drive a Japanese econobox. Low fuel use, nimble to drive, easy to park, reliable, and it will remain reliable for 15 years. And it costs less than 20.000 dollars. A much better advice. When do you need 8 seconds from 0-60? When do you use all the space? And you pay 10's of thousands of dollars extra initally and thousands upon thousands of dollars subsequently for moving air and complexity. And no, I am not poor. The first question that should be addressed by anyone buying a hybrid is it going to have a decent pay back period when it comes to using less gas. If you only drive a few thousand miles a year, you will never make your money back over the base car. You may get more back when you sell it but will lose money considering the cost of money (what you could get get from investing that extra money you save from the initial cost).
@Hallowsaw
Жыл бұрын
At $4 a gallon over 200k mikes 1mpg higher saves you about $330 in the 50mpg range. Now at say 30mpg you save 920 from 29-30mpg.... but thats over 200k miles. Thats literally less than $2 a week for a 29mpg car vs a 30mpg car.... for the 49 to 50 mpg car its only like 50c a week. All of these are at an average of 15k miles a year. I dont see why people make it a priority to get the best mpg car what we are talking a couple bucks a week difference. Most cars in tge same class are within 5mpg of each other. So we are only talking about a 1-5k difference over 13 years. Thats really not a lot. You can save that by getting a car that is cheaper to repair and maintain, has cheaper initial cost, cheaper insurance. Idk 5k difference does not seem like a lot to me over 13 years

Toyota hybrid, are just made to be a little better than all the rest. It's strange that Köningsegg who has done hybrids for 10 years, make a better hybrid than Toyota who has done this for 25 years. The Gemera has a 600 hp engine, and a totalt output 1700 hp. That's over 3 time more. Toyota prius has a 149 hp engine, and a totalt output of 199 hp That's 0,25 times more. So, they are just making fake hybrides. The future are electric. If you are going to get a Toyota hybrid, the best you can do, are leasing. When the production of Electric cars goes up, there will be hard to sell. If you look at Norway you will see the trend. The car owners in Norway have the option to sell abroad. But, countries that are adapting slower, will not have this option.
