I think that you could set the hammer prior to installing the regulator... If you are going to set your regulator to 160 bar then prior to installing it adjust your hammer to get the highest velocity at 160 bar (this is where everything is most efficient).. Then when you put the regulator in you should have the same velocity..

Yes & no, the regulator holds a certain amount of air but the hammer still controls the flow, too little pressure and it won't use all the air in the regulator too much and it will hold it open too long using all the air and allowing more air to flow in wasting air...That's why a chrony is needed for turning & adjusting the hammer spring to find the highest number before it starts to drop off...

@@airgunnersedge4061 Pressure is pressure no matter if there is a regulator or not.. 160 bar is 160 bar and if your hammer is adjusted to obtain max velocity at 160 bar (which means every thing is adjusted to max efficiency at that pressure level of 160 bar) then it may not need any adjustments once a regulator is installed and providing the same 160 bar.. A regulator is a simple valve that stays open until a certain amount of air pressure forces it shut, trapping the air between the output valve and the regulator valve (pentium) This is why you can still shoot your gun once it is off the regulator because the regulator valve stays open and allows air to pass .. You can increase the spring tension on the output valve to close faster but you will also have to adjust the hammer to open it with the 160 bar and the added pressure from increasing the output valve spring tension, this would conserve some air.. The minute the hammer strikes the output valve then the regulator also opens to let air in because the pressure drops below (160 bar), if your output valve spring is too weak then hammer bounce can strike the output valve several times releasing un-needed air, before the valve has a chance to close off the escaping air.. a little stiffer spring (or a thin shim) in the output valve helps to solve this wasted air problem. I am not sure if the Flash has an anti-bounce mechanism for the hammer in it or not.. most Hatsans do have the anti-bounce mechanism for the hammer.. Both the output valve and regulator valve open at the same time and as the air rushes out of the pentium and released by the opening of the output valve, air also rushes past the regulator through the pentium and out the output valve before the output valve has a chance to fully close, a little stiffer spring tension on the output valve will cut off this wasted air..

@@airgunnersedge4061 160 bar seems high to me.. I think if it were me I would set the regulator for about 130 bar.. Once tuned you could get about 900 fps with a 25 grain pellet and that converts to around 45 fpe..

From Huma Air website "Huma-Air Tuning Regulator For The Hatsan Flash Pup For the Hatsan Flash we have a regulator available what will convert your "budget" airrifle into an excelent sniper rifle. It will boost the performance to the highest shot consistency and accuracy. This regulator is vented to the atmosphere without any modification to your pressure tube. So no drilling in the tube and also no creeping up in power during time."

It does make it much easier using a tank to get that initial seal but should not be Necessary,, I actually had to pump really fast with my hand pump to get that initial seal but it did fill... Did you use a little silicone on the O rings before install and you may have to take it back apart and check to see if you nicked one of the O rings
