An abandoned 14th century Czech church is getting a new lease of life due to ghostly apparitions.
It's now a huge visitor attraction with tourists keen to post spooky selfies on social media.
STORYLINE
The church of Saint George, in the village of Lukova, features some unearthy sights.
The still consecrated Catholic church fell into disrepair after World War II when the ethnic German parishioners were expelled by the Czechs.
The church deteriorated until the late 1960's and was abandoned when pieces of the the ceiling began to fall during a funeral.
But in 2012, art student Jakub Hadrava, used it as his canvas and filled it's pews with ghostly figures.
The sculptures were created from plaster casts of live models draped in white cloth. The effect is chilling.
Hadrava called the work, "My Mind."
The site has become popular with travel bloggers and tourists and around 150 people visit on Saturday afternoons when the church is open to the public.
Auryyane Reisser, visiting from France with a friend, says she doesn't think the church is creepy at all, quite the opposite, "I think it's a peaceful place, it's not strange, I don't feel bad energy just the calm of a quiet village. So, it's pleasant."
Petr Koukl, caretaker of the ghost church, says most people have a positive reaction to the ghoulish guests but a few don't, "it's also true…we had two or three visitors that refused to enter. They peeked through the door but didn't enter because they didn't feel happy about it."
The church, about 200 kilometers (125 miles) east of Prague, got a new roof in 2017 mainly from 600,000 koruna ($23,300) in donations from visitors eager to take selfies and shoot video with the sculptures.
Once a year a mass is held in April to celebrate Saint George's Day.
