Proverb 30:5-9, Lk 9:1-6
The book of proverbs talks about the wisdom in having what is enough. The writer of the book of proverbs asks the Lord to give him neither riches nor poverty. Usually people ask for riches. Solomon asked for wisdom. In the prayer of our Father we pray for our daily bread. Also in proverbs he asks only for his share of bread. We ask for what is enough for the day. Having too much is a sin and having nothing is evil too. We need to trust in God's providence. Jesus after calling the twelve , he ordered them to take nothing for the journey; neither staff, nor haversack , nor bread, nor money, and let non of them take a spare tunic. They had to rely upon the providence of God who is found in the people they serve. Being too comfortable in riches could destruct us from sharing our lives with the needy. The mission of the twelve was spiritual like preaching, praying for the sick and casting out demons and lay people to support them with material needs. The church 's mission is to bring the kingdom of God and people should provide material needs for the church to do well her mission. We need to encourage hard work among church members so that whenever called upon , they will provide. Let us not ask for too much from people and God when we do nothing to deserve what we request for. We need to use well whatever we have and avoid having what we do not really need.
