Have you ever heard of, or perhaps used, a vaccine for preventing recurrent UTIs?
Uromune, a spray-based vaccine administered under the tongue, was developed to increase immunity against certain UTI-causing bacteria.
Previous research has demonstrated promising results for the vaccine, showing a reduction in recurrent UTI episodes and an increase in the UTI-free rate compared with individuals using a placebo.
New research published this month has added to the body of evidence, demonstrating fewer UTI symptoms, higher quality of life and better mental health, and fewer days on antibiotics for those using the vaccine versus a placebo.
It's great to see new evidence for this new approach to preventing UTIs, especially with research focusing on the burden of living in this condition. It is important to recognise, however, that individuals may experience different levels of success with UTI vaccines.
