That girl who “double booked herself”, if someone cancels, they can’t just email you back saying they can come. You did not owe her or anyone a free hour, which is probably like $150+ loss.... the chick who cancelled should’ve rescheduled not assume her spot wasn’t taken.

If the person reviews a script tattoo and they okay it and it’s something like a date or a certain spelling of a name that isn’t common knowledge it’s on them. Like that artist said “idk when your grandmother died I went by what you gave me”
@kellyjokanovich3939
5 жыл бұрын
I feel like the spelling thing (and dates) is on both the client and the artist. Yes, the artist needs to check, check, check their spelling and be 100% sure of the spelling. But I have never gotten a tattoo where I didn't get to see the stencil before hand. At that point it's up to the client to triple check to make sure it's what they want and speak up if you notice something's wrong.
@delicatedee23

@Sara11614
5 жыл бұрын
@@delicatedee23 It's on the tattoo artist too. They should check stuff and make sure things look right as well. It doesn't matter if it's the client's fault for not spelling it right first. The tattoo has that artist's name on it. If they did the work and misspelled something it is equally their fault. It is on a person's body forever. Therefore they should be vigilant about what they put there. Not saying it isn't important for the client to check, but it's still on the artist too.
@delicatedee23
5 жыл бұрын
Sara no... only the client knows how they want words spelled exactly. People spell words different depending on what they personally want. If the client can’t spell right its not artists fault. Words can be different and not spelling how you think it would. Tattoo artists shouldn’t have to be spell check. The client should have spelled checked several times before going to get it tattooed.

Her name is Charlotte, and he spelt it right, everything was fine. But the stencil had a line through the 'L' of her name, and it made it look like a 'T'. So it spelt out Chartotte lol. I laughed about it. He was literally just telling me that he isn't spelling out the names as he's tattooing, he's just following the stencil. Then he crosses the 'L' lol. It's okay though, he fixed it into a flower that merges into the 'L'. Not what I wanted, but he made it work. Still looks awesome. Very happy with it :).

If someone is getting a tattoo and something is spelled wrong it's the customer's fault. Yes, as an artist you should go through any spelling with a fine toothed comb but the customer is the one who has to live with it for the rest of their life. They should be spell checking with a fine toothed comb. If you have a miss spelled tattoo of a name, especially if you gave someone that name, it's entirely your fault. They have you look at and approve stencils for a reason.

Good luck spellchecking a tattoo that's being done on your back, or on your ass. Tattooists often misspell during the work itself, and that's purely on them, not on the customer. Should they be shamed for it? No, everyone makes mistakes. But they should be held responsible for them. If an artist shows the customer a sketch, yes, they should check it. It's still on the artist for a big part, but the customer did see it. If the misspelling is during doing the tattoo itself, which is the case more often than not, it's 100% on the artist. Also, the customer often doesn't check the spelling because they expect the tattoo artist to do their job well. Tattoos are expensive, and when you're paying the price of a good service, you should get a good service. Spelling tattoos well is a part of the job, too. If I'm paying $400 for a tat, I'm not going to do the tattooist's job for them.

@@photonicpizza1466 A tattoo being done on your back or on your ass is extremely easy to check. You can still look at the stencil before the tattoo is on you. If a tattooist misspells a word in a stencil that's on the tattooist. If a customer approves a misspelled tattoo stencil that's on the customer. Should they be shammed for it? Yes, it's an unacceptable mistake. It's easy to avoid and extremely difficult to fix. I don't know what you mean by if. Tattoo artists always use stencils. That's how tattoos work. Tattoo artists make a stencil, show it to the customer to approve or disapprove, transfer it onto the customer, then trace it. They don't tattoo in their own hand writing. If the tattoo is misspelled the stencil was misspelled. Expect the tattoo artist to do their job well but that doesn't mean it's ok to not look at and check the stencil the tattoo artist showed you and asked you about before hand. Tattoos are expensive which is exactly why customers should check every stencil with a fine toothed comb before approving them and paying for them. Spelling tattoos correctly is a part of the job but a misspelled tattoo affects the customer more than the artist. An artist can live it down. The customer can't. If you're paying $400 for a tattoo you should be checking to make sure the permanent tattoo going on your skin is spelled correctly. If your paying $0.04 for a tattoo you should be checking to make sure the permanent tattoo going on your skin is spelled correctly. When they show you the stencil it's YOUR JOB to look over it with a fine toothed comb and make sure you like it and that there are no mistakes before you approve it. Like you said; tattoo artists make mistakes. If you approve a mistake, the mistake is yours.

@@eclecticmillennial4225 I meant while it's being done, it was pretty clear from context. And every tattoo I have has been done freehand. You seem to have forgotten that that's possible. But it is. Not all tattoos are done with a stencil, and the tattooists I've visited are often against them, unless it's for highly intricate and detailed works. The vast majority of misspelled tattoos are done freehand, it's pretty fucking difficult to misspell on a stencil. And when it's done on a stencil, the stencil should be correct to begin with. If it's not, it's on the artist, not the customer. The customer didn't make the stencil, the artist did. The customer didn't do the work on the lettering, the artist did. The customer checked it for approval, sure, but the lettering should be correct, since that's a very basic thing that should not need checking. If the artist messes it up, it's the artist who messed it up, and they should be held accountable. If I pay a plumber to plug in my washing machine, and he tells me how he'll do it but messes it up, even during telling me so, it's not my fault. It's his.

@@eclecticmillennial4225 Do you know what a stencil is? First drafts and sketches are something else. Every good tattooist makes these for approval. Not every artist uses stencils. You can do a tattoo freehand without a stencil but with a first, second or eighth draft. In such a case, you can approve a perfectly good draft, but the tattooist can still fuck it up, *because they're doing it freehand*.

As someone with a visual processing disorder, its kind of like dyslexia, transposing words from, like, looking at a picture and writing it on something else is soooo difficult. I have to go back and forth like 10 times to make sure it's done correctly. I would be a bad tattoo artist.

Def the best way to handle the situation that's integrity right there.

I have a script tattoo of a full sentence. I have also been doing calligraphy since I was a kid. I wrote it myself, in calligraphy font, handed my tattoo artist the paper and they made it into a stencil that they just had to tattoo over. It turned out perfect and the fact that it was my own handwriting made it even more meaningful.

I engraved trophies and awards for a while. We had to institute a policy of having the customer write the text to be copied in their own handwriting and signing it "approved". We printed a blank form just for this purpose and stopped giving away perfectly good engraving for free because of falsely induced errors prompted by customer dishonesty. I caught on because I discovered a trespassing customer rummaging in our scrap box in the non-public work room and extracting the plate she had identified as faulty which I had happily replaced with her "corrected" version rather that providing a refund. Amazingly our error rate went to zero immediately. That formerly regular customer of sales awards never returned.

There should be a thing where the client signs a waver saying "yes, I'm happy with this design" before they get the tattoo, so they can't complain like the person did about their child's name spelt wrong. (there probably is something like this, but it should be more common)

Since she never took latin and had a "friend" who once had latin in school help her, she ended up with latin for "pain is fashionable, but scars remain". I pointed it out after I saw it and she really got pissed at me :-D ... she still has it, never corrected it.

Some really good advice for doing lettering.... Read it aloud to yourself.. Then go letter by letter, out loud. Part of my work is lettering and though I sometimes could have a second chance it's never ever good. I do hand engraving and this trick has served me well for 20 years. I've only messed up bad once because of the date being wrong. Lesson learned. I also tell my clients the same info when they send me phrases or dates..
