Step by step!! This is one of the best reviews I have seen. Thank you for taking the time to really highlight the elements of the system. Love it. We'll have to go camping one day so I can educate you on the joys of a connected rainfly 😅😄 JK, to each their own. Thanks again for the shares! Solid stuff. If anyone has a question on the system they can reply to this comment. - Derek from Haven Tents ✌

Certainly one of the reasons this is so versatile. Attached fly for quick setup and break down. Or… detached for many different ways to configure your tarp without readjusting your shelter.

@HavenTents

@@SWVAWingate size is the same. Biggest difference is the materials. If you’re going to carry it, go with XL. If weight isn’t important, Safari.

You could use bungees instead of guy lines off the tarp to prevent loss of taughtness when you get in. I might try that out

Very very good review. We have Warbonnet Blackbirds, and Amok Draumrs as well as Eagle Nests, so we're totally up to speed on hammock camping (ADV motorcycle riders). I think I'll pick one up based on your great review. And I do agree-tarp with it's own ridgeline is the better pitch. That way you can set up the tarp first if it's raining, then the hammock, and the system stays dry. Thanks!

yes, I have come home from a weekend trip, where I brought my newly purchased garden xl hammock with me and had to test it where I had it up to hang. I had tested it on the ground at home in the garden, and there I found it really good , except that the tarp was not waterproof. It was not a good experience because when I had hung it up and had to lie down in it to sleep, well, the whole sheet split so it was not possible to sleep in the hammock, I was deeply disappointed and now I had no bunk to sleep in so I had to crawl under the small tarp on the ground when I couldn't get home when I was on a trip to a desert island and I was really disappointed that the hammock splits like that the first time you use it when bought brand new. So not a hammock I would recommend

Excellent review!! I’ve narrowed down my sleep option to a hammock or a swag tent. If I go with a hammock I going with the Haven XL based on your review!

I did a full cycle of having: - A crappy gathered-end hammock - A haven tent - A draumr amok 5 - A good, long gathered end hammock with an integrated ridgeline And although I loved the comfort of laying in the haven tent and especially in the draumr, I am sticking to my cheaper, lighter and more reliable choice - the good gathered end and a tarp. I got the pad of the haven fail on me, making it useless, and I have gotten soaking wet in a draumr in a storm, just because draumr acts like a giant funnel bringing every drop of water under your butt.

I think I need to find out where I can get one of these in Tasmania. Our weather is extremely variable and the the versatility certainly seems perfect for here. And and can see the utility in the storm setup! I’ve tried setting up tents in unexpected high winds before! And when the horizontal rain comes it would be a bonus. I’ve also had a sudden downpour flow through my tent(admittedly that was a very cheap and nasty tent back in 1986!🤣).
