Wakkerstroom is a small town in the northern interior of KZN that many South Africans will not have heard about but is internationally famous for the bird watching that is to be had in the mostly farm lands that surround the town. Home to the Botha's and Rudd's Larks, two endemic lark species literally only found around the area, the town attracts many birders from near and far who visit specifically to find the two small birds. Other rare species can also be seen and the town definitely makes for a great stop to add to your life list if you are a birder!
