Loved this one, Sam. ‘ōlelo Hawai’i is beautiful, and it’s truly heartbreaking to think about its ban and the impact that has had on Kānaka Maoli. It’s an amazing thing to see how ‘ōlelo has survived and evolved, and it’s encouraging to see it embraced by many people. I’ve never been to Hawai’i, but I have maintained a 300+ day streak learning ‘ōlelo Hawai’i on Duolingo 😅. I know that’s nothing like learning the language through immersion, but I am grateful to have that resource to learn from afar!

Circle the wagons with Hawaiian language and culture. Globally, indigenous languages are disappearing. Dark times coming in the US. Let Hawaii be the light.

Brah this is spot on. My daughter and I just started again learning the olelo. Most Hawaiians are gone from Hawaii these days and with that a lot that learned it from their tutu’s now live on mainland.
