Aloha Kakou!
Hi Everyone!
Today I decided to do a ipuheke. It’s two gourds attached into one instrumental drum with a handle attached to it. The "ipu" or gourd is the bottom part and "heke" means the top gourd. This traditional percussion is used in the Hawaiian culture for chanting and dancing. The sounds made with the two gourds carry a deep tone that can be heard from afar.
It’s been a while since I’ve made them and I’m giving to someone whom I appreciate as a gift.
I hope you all find this helpful when you make your own.
You can get the gourds, tools and supplies at welburngourdfarm.com.
Mahalo nui for watching!
A hui hou,
Aunty Pat
