Thank you!! All the Hawaiian quilt tutorials show how to cut the design and then they tell you to applique but don't show you how. I'm sure it's not as easy as you make it seem but at least now I have the method to work with. The skill will come in time (I hope). Very excited to start practicing. Thank you, again. Happy quilting!!

Hands down the best video on Hawaiian applique. Subscribed before it was over. Thank you for posting.

Fantastic tutorial. I learned to do this at the Community Center on Kauai. Such lovely ladies. I made two wallhangings, but it has been 4 years. I needed a refresher. This was perfect! Just the way I learned. I was worried it would be a different technique and I would end up confused trying to mix my muscle memory with something new.

I have to admit this is a technique I'd never heard of until I became friends with a lady from Hawaii. Ever since she mentioned it I have been intrigued. this is an awesome video and will certainly give this a try.

This is also very common for us on the main land. This needle turn has been what I, and many others have been doing for years. Way easier than all that prep work others do!

This is a very helpful video! This is what I have been looking for today - everything I pulled up was always about putting fusible webbing on it to hold it on the fabric. This video is very helpful. I hope you have other videos on tips for drawing and cutting the fabric.

Lovely fabrics, I’ve seen a similar technique with cutwork, turning the fabric as they work. So enjoyable to watch, hoping to try some day.

That's my favorite appliqué method. There's no need for all the equipment that is being sold nowadays, just turn as you go. I don't see the point of avoiding at all cost the technique of needleturn since it's the essence and the source of enjoyment of most appliqué; I would not turn the fabric under only if I were applying a soutache all around the motif that would hide the raw edge. Thanks for the nice video.

Where do you get the designs, is there a website to find the designs.

Hi! My mom's designs were all original, but there are many traditional and new designs available online. Simply google "Hawaiian quilt patterns". Hope this helps!

Is batik easier or more difficult to needle turn?
@devanmarques1780
Жыл бұрын
It depends on the size and shape of the batik patterns being cut out and quilted. The fabric pattern in the video is hand-painted with dye, then cut out to be quilted onto the backing fabric. There should be no overall difference in difficulty, but let me know what you find! :)
