His part in, Ryan's daughter, and Hobsons' choice opposite, The great Charles Laughton, memorable performances. She still looks great today. FV, thanks for this great trip down memory lane with my first love, Hayley Mills (at the time, I was the only 10-year-old boy on the street who found her more mesmerizing than Daniel Boone.) Though not often mentioned, “That Darn Cat” went to the top of my list because it featured my favorite animal, and Hayley. Though later years weren’t always easy for her, I’m glad she avoided the kind of headlines that plagued other former child stars-and she still has her grace and beauty.

Her Father was a renowned English actor, but I don't know if he was quite in the millionaire category. If he did handle his daughter(s) careers/finances-her money may have been the major funding supporting the family. It would seem he should have done better, a separate business manager might be better for kid actors. It's all too common to hear devastating stories of lost fortunes, much less when child actors who transition to adult roles is rare. They are left with nothing.

I had the feeling with John Mills (which may be completely mistaken) that he put both his daughters to work in films at a very early age - Juliet has a role in one of his films when she was a toddler - and it is worrying the he didn't take far more care of Hayley's money. He knew all about the business. Plus Haley developed an eating disorder because of the stress of always needing to look perfect. She was fragile and extremely gifted as an actress and she needed protection which she doesn't seem to have received. Her sister Juliet made many English films before going to America, so she had a chance to grow up without as much pressure as Hayley. I am extremely sorry that such a gifted child should have found herself in such a position years later.

Wife coming home putting the copper on to do the washing then cooking dinner for the three children. Then getting up the next morning to do it all againAll this not to save anything not to go out boozing and meals out just to put food on the table and pay the rent. My grandparents and parents had a very tough life going back to the 1890's but never once did I gear them moan OR whinge because someone had more than them. They lived being entertained at the "pictures" watching people that became wealthy. It was never an issue for them. Yes, there's lots of inequality in more ways than just monetary! Here they were telling us if mental health issues, which have run through part of my family and it is very destructive. Don't judge people in such a nasty way. I believe the Mill's family are genuinely good people and philanthropic and raise and support issues of the suffering. It's a good thing for well known people to raise the profile of good causes.
