Just bought a Q2 with the 14K riser, but I'm playing with a Powell Aurumite 14k headjoint instead (no insult to Haynes). The articulation clarity is insane...

Brendon Phillips the articulation clarity on which headjoint is insane?

@@MrsDallimore08 the Powell 14k. The Haynes is great, but the Powell is my favourite out of my 4. The response from the Haynes headjoint (w/ 14k riser) is a bit slower, but brighter with easier projection (even though the first octave is a bit weaker). The flute also has the best high E I've played out of all flutes without a split E.

Insightful review, as always! I actually didn’t miss the on-screen mouth diagrams, I seem to better understand the nuances of each flute by watching you figure them out for yourself. Thanks Joanna! 🎶

I just got my Haynes!!! I went into the whole process expecting to come home with a Japanese-made flute but ultimately narrowed it down to Haynes and Miyazawa after trying out over 20-ish flutes. Haynes won. It’s still being made and I’m so excited to get it!

In a previous video you compared the Q1 to the Q2. Do you find any differences between the Q2 and the Q3? The specs seem very similar. I'm shopping for flutes now but it's a slow process due to the pandemic. I have a trial with a Q1 and an upcoming trial with a Q2. I have a severe nickel allergy. The Q3 might be worth the extra cost for me just to know that if there is ever any wear to the surface I will not be exposed to nickel from under the plating. I adore the Haynes tone and I am really enjoying the trial with the Q1. Beyond the price difference and plated keys I'd love to know if you found and major differences between the Q2 and the Q3.

Omg I actually remember I realized something weird about that range a while ago and now I’m starting to figure it out. Also Joanna, do you think you can do a video on tone color? I’m always confused about how flutists can change tone color with the shapes of their mouth and I’m honestly confused about what general colors we can make and how they sound.

houtblazer I’ve only ever heard great things. My friend works for a flute retailer and she tells me that it’s the best of both worlds of a silver and gold flute. She claims that all the customers who have bought it, always seem to come back to the store to tell her how much they love it. She says not all buyers of flutes make a point to come back with such enthusiastic reviews. In fact, it might be my next flute!

I love having more resistance to my keys on a flute as a piano player. That is why I carry a small screwdriver with my flute to make on the fly adjustments.
@sueoh4744

Mandy Hieatt how did you learn to make those adjustments? I fixed a leak myself once, but would be nice to have a chart for reference
@MandyHieatt1

@@sueoh4744 trial and error is how I figured it out. If you adjust too tight keys won't move and if it is too loose keys move too much. Although I love my flute, she did not cost me that much so I am not afraid to try things on her.
