After a disaster that results in a Presidential Disaster Declaration, “Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP)” funding is provided by FEMA to states to support mitigation activities that will reduce damage and injuries in future events (such as retrofitting buildings and securing their contents).
In California, this funding is coordinated by the California Office of Emergency Services HMGP Unit. Eligible recipients include local governments, special districts, and some private non-profits (primarily those that support response efforts and other government-type functions).
This webinar provided an overview of the HGMP program (who is eligible, how to apply, etc.), along with an example of the process based on the successful application by the Los Angeles Foodbank. Experts discussed strategies for completing the process for nonprofit organizations of all sizes.
