How have I just found this!? Love your brew set up. Especially the repurposed keg XD Great hazy IPA.

Thanks for the great content! Did I hear that right, you used 44lbs of grain and only got 7.5 gallons of 6.6% beer? Whoa, the crush didn't look that bad!

is spraying sanitizer that way on stuff you use for brewing safe for the beer?

Pretty cool.. two questions for ya. 1. Some guys are really serious about using a sight glass or something else attached to the top of the fermenter with a butterfly valve, that they purge with CO2 multiple times before dropping hops for dry hopping. I see you just open the lid and move quickly. Ever had an issue? Are they over-thinking it? 2. I've never used one, but I've seen a diaphragm valve that supposedly helps control the flow when you're dumping/harvesting from the fermenter bottom. Yay/nay?

Great questions, I think using the sightglass or an actually dry hopper is a great investment and more insurance to minimizing O2 pick up. I purge CO2 through the racking arm while I open the top and then add my dry hops. Lots of great breweries still do it this way and I haven’t noticed any oxidation or I’d be making the purchase for the hop doser. Diaphragm valves are legit, I just haven’t dropped the money for one. I used one while harvesting yeast when I worked at a local brewery. They do help a lot to control the flow and get a solid drop of the cone without blowing a hole in the cone. If I had to choice between a hop doser or a diaphragm valve, I’d get the diaphragm balance.

I've had similar issues with massive dry hop, things get stuck and brewhouse efficiency suffers. Great video that though mate very interesting 👍

What bouncer do you use? Any you recommend or vouch for?

I’ve since trashed (literally) my bounce filter due to constant clogging due to size and it’s filter size. I picked up this strain/filter instead and couldn’t be happier! amzn.to/35o7TYl

What's your brewhouse efficiency typically? 43+lbs or grain for a 10G seems like you'd have a pretty high OG!
@HopKillerBrewery

It was the worst mash efficiency I got. 60%, normally I’m in the +80%. This was using my old mill that was on its way out. It wasn’t crushing like it should, found a of un crushed malt when graining out. The new monster mill is great though with a lot more consistent Mash Efficiency, thankfully!

When you’re dry hopping, especially the 2nd dry hop around 12:24, I hear a whistling sound. Are you forcing CO2 into the tank to help prevent oxidation?... That’s my biggest downfall is trying to find a way to dry hop with carboys and prevent oxidation, in a single dry hop let alone a double.. great vid!!
@HopKillerBrewery

Thank you, I am! I always have CO2 going through the blow off arm to ensure positive pressure out of the vessel to minimize oxygen pick up. If you have a CO2 tank, I’d get an open ended hose to put at the mouth or slightly down the neck of the carboy at 10-15PSI to purge while dry hopping.

I dont get it why you have a verry nice unitank and not dry hop oxigen free... why dont you have the container on top that you can punge with co2 when dryhopping ????
@HopKillerBrewery

That setup is +$300, I purge during dry hoping. So many, amazing, award winning breweries, still dry hop the way I dry hop.

@@HopKillerBrewery how do you do ? When opening the lid you let oxigen in... you meen you purge the tank after ?? Eanyway your beer look verry nice ;)

@@nodaska19 before opening the fermenter I’m applying positive pressure with CO2 so while the lid is open, CO2 is spilling out of the top, preventing O2 from coming in (ideally)

I like some bitterness in my NEIPAs too but damn, 65 IBUs in a 6.6 ABV seems like a lot.
@HopKillerBrewery
4 жыл бұрын
Haha 65IBU according to beersmith, which in my entire experience with it always has a higher number than it actually is. Even with WC IPA’s I have to shoot for the 80-100IBU on the software that lines up with what I would consider “Standard” bitterness for a standard 7% ABV IPA.
