From my experience, HBCU'S and smaller PWI's seem to know you as a student and not as a social security number. But at my HBCU'S, teachers (African-American) as a whole want you to succeed and the teachers seem more concerned about you. I came across a couple Caucasian teachers at the smaller PWI'S that I attended for who were willing to make sure that the students grasps the material. But overall, I love my HBCU'S due to the culture and purpose that surrounds the school.

I attended stillman 🐯(HBCU) 5 miles from university of Alabama (#rolltide) and spent a lot of time on both campuses. I may be a bama fan BUT the racism on campus&in the city in general is strong like tx a&m . My hbcu had other races &ppl from all over the world. It was inclusive, no one was treated different. I transferred to UAB & it is very diverse& I loved everything about it. I'm now in Texas. I hope that my kids attend an HBCU BUT I am not confident that they will. It's so much about an hbcu that I wish all races could experience. If even for a day it would dispel a lot of stereotypes & misconceptions.

Great video. I started out at a predominately black school. After a year, I transferred to a PWI and received the best education, in addition to a great deal of help from my fellow classmates. We all wanted each other to succeed. It was challenging at first, but I learned so much and I’ve been able to come across so many opportunities. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. 💕

Great video. I just wish that the PVU sis would have used this platform to clear up the narrative that classes at HBCUs are easy and that you don’t have to do much work in order to pass. This is something that I frequently hear from black people who attended PWI’s and it is far from the truth. Now granted, she may be speaking from her own experience from taking a few classes at PV. However, I am also an HBCU graduate and my professors definitely challenged us and did not cut us any slack because they knew that no one would do such for us in the real world. We had to earn every grade that we received. #TXSUAlumni

Texas A&M commerce is a good school. I dont really know much about it but what others tell me. I would say to research the school before attending and try to schedule a tour of the campus. One for prospective students and then possibly reach out to an idividual and see if maybe they can kind of tell you the pros and the cons about the institution. I know there student body is diverse but that's about it. 🙃

Please don't have these people thinking HBCUs are easy. I'm a PV grad and school was not easy. This coming from a Texas scholar who graduated in the top 24% of my class at a huge white school with scholarship opportunities at bot UT and A&M. It's still college, we pullled all-nighters, had difficult and easy professors, etc. An HBCU is a historically black college or university. Lamar is not an HBCU. Having a large black population doesn't make a school an HBCU. This was a cute idea for a video!

Curly Actress thank you!!!! I was so upset listening to these “stereotypes.” I’m a Bio major at PV, & no grades are just given. Either way we’re all getting a degree, just don’t talk down on my institution 😂

Of course! Thank you for your comment. I was planning on creating a video about my major and more specifics about me so stay tuned! There are definitely a lot of majors to choose from but if I were to go through my freshman year again I probably would have chosen to major in Biomedical Science. You want to look at the upper level electives and see which courses you will be taken towards your major course work and if you are planning to go to Medical school (in texas) your allowed to major in anything just make sure you excel in the prerequisites!

You learn about yourself and you end up being very close and like family because they are smaller and everyone knows everyone. Professors know you and your not a number. Regardless HBCU’s rock and I will never regret my decision.

I will come back in a few weeks to remind you to go look. you can check my sisters school website as well. Some companies that come here are Apple, Goldman Sachs, Cisco, Visa, Accenture, Locke martin... and so on. These are companies that come back each year. So please stop!!! ChimeInWithSochima you don’t even need to go to school to be an actor. that’s a stroke of luck compared to the many people who aspire to be an actor. there’s little real educational topics that go into acting, so that’s not s very strong argument as to why your “hbcu” is very successful.

You have no clue what you're talking about. I work at a top 50 corporation and my Sr Director in my dept is a black man who is an HBCU alum. I went to an HBCU and all of my employees who report to me went to PWIs. At the of the day, recruiters at major corporations don't care about where you went as much as you think. What matters more is how well you interview, your network and the work resume you build.
