I always enjoy commentary as it gives an insight on the game's engine.

No, I won't be doing that because I'm not trying to prove my technical prowess; I'm trying to illustrate what can physically be done in this game given a superhuman player. That's the purpose of TAS.

This makes me thing about ddr or other arrow/rythm games. Also, i like when a TAS show the input (it reminds me an old SMW TAS where the player input was in rythm with the music on some parts ahah).

Awesome run and great idea of mixing it up by not going for fastest time but least key presses :) The DDR-like visualization is also pretty cool. Subs should have been a second or two longer though. Some sentences I could only read in time by pausing the video

The D-Pad is just a cover for 4 buttons; if you get rid of it, you can easily do these tricks on a console.

I mean, yeah, this was viral for 2 days and then stopped growing, granted, but its successor has over 5,000 views over the course of one weekend, so I'm optimistic about these kinds of runs generating traffic.

If you're running at full speed, you'll end up on the top of the pipe. It's faster to jump than to slow down, so considering we're going to lose a press either way, I jump.

I think this is a cool run, but I'd be more interesting & impressive if it were restricted to inputs that can actually be made on a normal controller. (Specifically, pressing left & right or up & down simultaneously is considered cheating in most RTA settings.) I'm not saying it's cheating as it's an arbitrary TAS category, but I think this category would be more interesting if it were something you could hypothetically do on a real console with a real controller. PS: Yes I know you can modify a controller by removing pieces or wearing it down so this input is possible. A standard controller in good condition is a pretty standard requirement for RTA runs. PPS: I really like the DDR bars, but they could use some visual design work so they're smaller & more attractive.

we find entertainment in tool-assistance also, watching tasers play non-toolassisted is often more boring than you would expect

Who's to say? What if some manufacturer made a custom controller that didn't use a D-Pad? So long as the NES accepts the input, it's valid, at least by TAS standards.

Well, it's unlikely that I can find an unmodded controller that doesn't have a D-Pad, but it's possible that, if you look hard enough that you'll find a D-Pad that allows you to press down on the D-Pad to press both at once...I'd have to do some research. That said, I'm told that if you press the D-Pad hard enough, you can press both at once. These tactics wouldn't be acceptable in the NWC, but neither is tool-assistance, so if that's your criteria for cheating, I've already violated it...

it's a TAS "Tools Assisted speedrun" he doesn't play in a real NES but in an emulator on pc with tools same ram watch etc... so it's not cheating

Why did you jump twice at 0:15 when you only needed to once? I know it saves a bit of time but still, you forgo saving time in other places like in 1-2

The animated bars are distracting and ugly... though, it'd be interesting to make a game out of them, let people try to re-enact a TAS. :p

I like the general idea of it, showing what buttons are being pressed, but it could've been done better.
