Ischyrocnemis goesi (Holmgren, 1858) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae, Ctenopelmatinae)
parasitizes the larvae of Aprosthema tardum (Klug, 1814) (Hymenoptera: Tenthredinoidea, Argidae)
The endoparasitoid Ischyrocnemis goesi parasitizes the larvae of Aprosthema. It can parasitises the small second instar larvae up to the larger fifth instar. It lays a white curved egg in the host’s haemocoel. After about 3 days the endoparasitoid larva will hatch. The endoparasitoid larva will not interrupt the development of the host larva until it has made its cocoon. Then the endoparasitoid larva will kill its host and make its own cocoon inside the host cocoon. The endoparasitoid will overwinter in this cocoon. The next spring an adult Ischyrocnemis goesi will emerge from the cocoon. The host Aprosthema tardum has at least 3 generations in one season. It is not clear if this endoparasitoid also has more than one annual generation.
