That was deep and heartfelt. I had to let my husband go. I stayed 12 years with a man I poured into and realized he wasn't pouring into me and I had to love me more. I couldn't imagine myself, spending the rest of my life unhappy and unfulfilled. Talking until I was blue in the face, being the breadwinner, etc, etc. My heart goes out to the women who stay, because as I learned through my healing and self love journey, you deserve better. A man does not define who you are as a woman. Don't you ever forget that and don't you ever let him forget it either. I'd rather be alone than be unhappy.

I still l9ve the simple pleasure of not having to cook after a hard day. That I can eat cereal, just rice, cheese & crackers. Anything I want without having to guess what others want. At first it was hard & lonely but now I'm happier than I ever thought I could be. The idea of being in a couple is the last thing I want. It's time for me to discover who I am deep inside. Going back to school cause I don't make much as a cashier (thus the rv, cheep affordable & mine) But I also discovered that I love living in a rv park such nice friendly, helpful neighbors, yet my own Yard & space. @leavoda3791 I couldn't have said it better myself. The OP, while kinda true, is an extreme oversimplification of the real complexity that 2 incredible, truly remarkable human beings are portraying here. To take it one notch deeper, in this scene, he's discovering that he actually matters, something up until then he never realized. She is showing her devotion and vulnerability, which he didn't know she had because he thought she didn't need him.... because he didn't know he was valuable. This is found in the "hard and rocky earth where nothing can grow" comment. His flaws are obvious, and he knows it. What makes the scene most beautiful is that Viola Davis' character trusts him enough to know that the way to reach him is through her own vulnerability, which takes BREATHTAKING courage. To light the path through example, not force. It highlights the real power of the feminine, which men contain and need help accessing. She ripped away the BS to the exact thing he needed, the access to the place within himself that knows what it is to have that compassion and nurturing instinct. Honestly, idk if anyone other than genuine, honest, authentic human beings could have done this scene. The emotions are 100% on point. It's impeccable.

@TheSarahskaninchen I think you're assuming a positive affirmation. It's more like the realization that a 5 yr old who took is rat swimming and had when it became real that the rat wasn't a frog? He didn't know his power. Not that the analogy is apt for the complexity of the interaction, but he's literally that unaware. She is telling him, by demonstrating her vulnerability, that he is more powerful than he knows... because he has NO concept of his value. None. ZERO.

Divorce is almost the norm these days because people stopped seeing marriage for what it is: a LIFETIME commitment. All men seeing this should listen very carefully! My mother spent 33 years standing by my father's side through the good and the bad (way more bad than good!) Until the day he died she was by his side. In turn it made her very bitter and she resented him and herself so much from that relationship. This taught me to not only to have even more respect for my mother for being the backbone of our family, but to also love and cherish my wife like she is the most precious thing on the planet! Either be good to each other or just leave it alone guys! The picture or narrative has always been painted that women are complex, complicated, fragile, needy, annoying, indecisive, not enough of something, or too much of everything! Meanwhile, I've always seen the statement, "Men are simple, we don't need alot", "all we ask for are such & such", or "if we had x y z, then we wouldn't cheat". Then, ironically, you see so many situations where a lot of them have everything they stated, but the goal post is moved again! And before anyone takes everything I said out of context, please don't! I had an essential part of my life uprooted. I have been with my partner for 7 years now, and on year 6 this very speech was said to me. Not word for word but in essence, "I poured all I had in you and you gave me nothing but I stayed". That was the most honest statement I had ever heard in my life, and it cut DEEP. HOW...how could I be so selfish to think i was the only one going through alot. How? I was so self absorbed and convinved that my success would make her happy but it was really my presence she yearned. I took a long, good and hard look at my life. It sank my heart that I kept stabing someone in the name of loving them. She was dying inside yet she stayed... until she had enough... This my dear will humble every cell of your body, remind you that no one man is an island. People Love You.
