I threw hands with my stepfather when I was 15, I didn't win, but he had to miss three days of work. I told him "I'm getting too big for you to discipline the old way, so I suggest we find a better way to handle things." Afterward, we talked things out, and we have a better relationship because now, even to this day, we speak as two adults.
@KJetixsSuccessor

@@rickyrando3076 It doesn’t matter if you win or lose so long as you don’t give in or give up. And if necessary both parties bleed. It shouldn’t and doesn’t matter the age, respect isn’t something you’re born into, and obedience sure as h-l isn’t either. It is a two way street and *earned* both ways. Beating or berating into submission achieves neither. The only thing keeping parent and child feathered despite the circumstances is fear. If not of the parent then fear of striking out, living wild and out of society either in poverty or in the wilds. Unless said parent(s) clean up his or her act, it’s a better alternative. Not everyone has the will or faith to overcome or see past such fear. But if either is gone, then no leash or beating can tether their person any farther. And the only way to stay in each other’s lives is sincerity as well as patience; to grow understanding. Because it is only though that that both parties will live through life together. Your worth doesn’t start at your age. Parenthood is a *responsibility* , not an obligation. If you have no intention of taking the responsibility as yours then don’t bother keeping the kid if you’re a female adult or staying in the kid’s life if you’re a male adult. Because if it’s an obligation, then you sure as h-l aren’t a man or a woman. Just a broken, misguided, and bitter overgrown fool.

Both my step parents were similar yet prime examples of people who make children resent and even hate… they brought out the worst in both my mother and father (whom ironically hated one another). It was a living hell. I was trapped either way no matter which direction I turned. I was never free to make my own choices and it only got worse when I was old enough to work. Fast forward 15 years later, I’m married and a father of 4 and I speak to neither one of my parents… gave them chance after chance to change and actually try…only for all of those chances to be for nothing. So my wife supported my decision in cutting them out of my life and keeping my children safe from them and their toxic and abusive behaviors. My kids have absolutely no idea who my mother is and they barely remember my father. At first I struggled with it and lost some sleep…but over time it got easier because I’ve never been more at peace. Some would say I’m robbing my children of their grandparents … which isn’t true. Their grandparents robbed themselves of my children. Thankfully my wife’s parents are exceptional people and have been nothing but loving and caring to me since I’ve been married to their daughter and I couldn’t be more thankful and blessed.

A lot people misunderstand Denzel’s character… As a parent, he makes a lot of mistakes, most parents are far from perfect, but in his mind he is trying to prepare his son for tough world ahead. In that era, Africa Americans were highly ostracized and mistreated and in society. This referenced by the troubles and challenges the father goes through. His bitter experiences shaped his ideals and views of the world. What the father is trying to do now is best prepare his son for when he has to face the rough world ahead with a more realistic view.
@SendarSlayer
3 күн бұрын
Lmao no. If he was Actually trying to prepare the child for the world then he would've listened to the facts of the situation and worked around it. He wanted control. Thinking an obedient child is a good one. And was wrong and refused to see otherwise. The kid didn't even quit the job, just moved to weekends so that he could attend practice. The troubles the father goes through are all self made. He denied his child a chance at success. He cheated. He grabbed and assaulted his wife when confronted and refused to take responsibility. He got drunk and started a fight. Trauma isn't an excuse to be an asshole.
