You stand correct, bibles were especially popular in the 1700s and 1800s, and families passed them down from one generation to the next.. the Bible was very important, in those years, that would be your marriage certificate, your birth certificate, death certificate.. it's all true you can look it up.. 1902 when they started birth certificates. the first standardized marriage certificates were issued in the late 1800s. The U.S. Bureau of the Census developed the first standard certificates for the registration of vital events-births and deaths-in 1900.. before all of this it was the family Bible.. When the American Falls was temporarily diverted in 1969, two bodies were found,, just maybe one was her.. it's only a hop skip and jump from Buffalo to the falls.

It is as beautiful as you can imagine. The story I was told when I was young, many many years ago, was pretty much like yours, however the thought was here, that while she disappeared and left her bible behind that actually she died, no-one was sure how and if it was murder, but they had underestimated how much they loved each other, and from sheer sadness he simply wasted away. They built the crystal tomb, as we called it, out of love ,sorrow, and guilt. Many stories and famous people here. Always peaceful, I love it here.

They (the parents) killed that girl off, she likely was pregnant too. If they paid her off she would have taken her Bible. Family Bibles were very important to all classes, no one would leave it behind willingly if they took their Faith & Literacy seriously. Rich people have the power to cover up murders much easier than those who are not. The Son may not have died of a broken Heart purely, he may have committed suicide once finding the truth of what his parents did... Especially if she could have been pregnant. That tomb was built out of guilt, not affection. They merely hoped it would distract from the terrible truth they were guilty of.

As soon as I watched your video, I just knew that they killed her or had her killed. If she had gone of her own will, she would never have left her bible; back then, a bible was a person's heart; she would not have left it. That glass tomb was built so elaborately to ease their guilt. Still, I hope wherever they put her, she is once more reunited with her true love, and his parents can never stop two hearts that genuinely love each other from being together, not even in death. It would be interesting to know where the parents are buried.

As safe as it is to assume that they paid her off, which would make perfect sense, it honestly seems like something far more sinister could have very well taken place. Regardless, the parents had something to do with it in some way or another, and they lost their only son soon afterwards. So, even if the maid really had just run off after their relationship was strictly forbidden, it was still due to the parents' actions. I don't necessarily want to say that I hope they ultimately "learned their lesson" because that would be somewhat cruel to say about parents losing a child; I do, however, hope that they realized that they'd made a huge mistake in whatever they did.

Then you have people like my sister. Mom and dad were against her being married to the man who she would marry. Even his mother sat her down and talked to with my mother, telling her what he was going to be like. He was going to be just like his dad. But, my sister wouldn't listen. And they ran off to Idaho to get married. She quickly found out he was going to cheat on her all the time, and later on he abused her. Once so bad she had to have some serious dental work. But, she stayed with him for 35 years. Until he told her he wanted to leave her. And he married a younger woman. I think she would have stayed with him the rest of her life. She died last summer, and he's been in poor health but, still with his second wife. A lot of times the parents are right. And the "child" doesn't listen to their heart telling them this is not going to be a good thing. And doesn't listen to parents or others who can see what they are headed for.

Very interesting! That took a lot of work and effort. If you are on the road and headed anywhere near Indiana, you might be interested in this. It's City Cemetery in Mishawaka, Indiana, and William Aldrich. He was a wealthy gambler type back in the mid 1800s. A lot of rumors spread around about the guy's comings and goings and possibly duplicitous activities. He got sick with TB and could only be comfortable sitting up in a chair. He knew the end was near, so he had arranged to have his chair built up in a way so he could sit up for eternity. He had a shotgun and assorted items near him. Kind of like a living room sitting spot that was built for his grave. The whole thing was placed in the ground and a cement cover on top. You can't really see much, but there's a plaque with some bit of a story, but that's a rather interesting thing to see, imo.

fascinating. sounds weird but i find old graves specially very interesting. i always wonder the story behind the graves and the names. what kind of life they had and did they belong to someone, what they have might look like. But this is very clear how these people looked like. and to have a story to go with it , it gives me goosebumps.

I live in Buffalo and the local rumor is that the angel’s face is supposedly based on the maid’s face. In a sense, his love is always watching over him.

You’re way too kind.. The maid was murdered by the parents.. Poor son. May he be at peace

The son knew the parents had done the deed. She was gone. Parents added insult to injury by immortalizing the story with this tomb thingy.

Dying from a "broken heart" in the Victorian era sometimes meant drugs and or alcohol, that part just went unsaid at the time.
