Scammers can call from a hidden number, from a regular mobile number (it starts, for example, at +7 (910), +7 (925), +7 (900) and so on) or from a number that does not belong to the bank - but not necessarily. Find out at your bank which numbers employees can call from, add them to your notebook and be doubly vigilant if you get a call from another number. Attackers can use special programs to substitute numbers - when the bank number is determined during the call. Scammers try to get information about the full details of the card (number, PIN code, CVV code - three digits on the back of the card), SMS code, online banking password or code word. Sometimes the data is asked to inform the "robot" - ostensibly for security.
Scammers convince you of the seriousness of the situation - for example, that a suspicious transaction must be urgently canceled, otherwise all money will be debited from your card. They get annoyed if you think too long or doubt. They dissuade you from calling back to the official number of the bank. The purpose of scammers is to confuse you so that in a hurry and stress you do not have the opportunity to think rationally and remember all the safety tips. If you feel that you are under pressure, put down the phone and call back to the official number of the bank: it can be found on the back of a debit or credit card and on the website. You can also log into the application or the bank's personal account to make sure that nothing has been debited from your account.
Scammers may not know all the information about you - for example, your patronymic, card number, or the availability of other products in the bank (another card, loan, or deposit).
Ask a few questions to the caller: "What is my middle name?", "Tell me the number of my card with which the "suspicious transaction" occurred?", "What other products do the bank have in my name?" Scammers can tell you that this is confidential information that they have no right to disclose - feel free to hang up. Scammers: they often make mistakes in words and accents, talk casually, and noise is heard in the background. Instead of the name of the bank, they can say: "Our bank".
If you are suspicious of the speech of the interlocutor on the other end of the wire, then reset the call and dial the official number of the bank - it is on the back of the card or on the website. Important: do not call back the number you received a call from, even if it seems similar to the official one.
Scammers: They may ask you to do something. For example:
withdraw money from an ATM and put it into another account;
transfer money to a special "secure" account;
install some programs on your phone or computer (TeamViewer, AnyDesk and others, with which they will temporarily get full access to your device and will be able to log into the bank's personal account);
transfer any amount (for example, as a "security payment" or "for verification");
enter a command on the phone (this may lead to calls being redirected from your phone to the number of scammers);
and so on. Do not tell anyone passwords and codes from SMS, full card number, CVV code on the back of the card, password from your personal account or bank application, code word.
SMS messages from the bank always come from the same number. If an SMS message, for example, about a completed transfer or payment came in a new dialog, most likely, these are scammers. Check the information about the balance on your account in the application or in the personal account of the bank.
Do not follow the links from the SMS, do not install programs unknown to you on your phone and computer. Do not transfer money to the accounts of strangers and organizations, even if it is allegedly a bank employee or a "special account". Do not call back to unfamiliar numbers, especially short ones: they can be paid. If you received a call "from the bank", but you have doubts, do not call back at the same number, even if it looks like an official one. Dial the bank's number manually: you can view it on the back of the card or on the bank's website. Or write to employees through the bank's app.
If you still informed the fraudsters about the card information or the code from the SMS, urgently call the bank at the official number and block the card. Report the scammers to the bank on whose behalf they acted. In Sberbank, for example, you can fill out a special form on the website.
