Thankfully Jeff only got pepper sprayed. This kind of psychotic break could very well have gotten someone else into a situation where a very different level of force was used. A lot of agencies are using Mental Health Crisis Response Teams with Therapists actually employed by the Police Department or a combination of the local mental health services and law enforcement. The biggest hurdle is funding for mental services and staffing. Mental health services are notoriously cut (and have been year after year) which has resulted availability of treatment crisis. People are waiting months to be seen in person and even longer to get medicated.

I had a less intense psychosis for about 3 days from a prescription from my doctor gave me that was meant to help me sleep. I called the cops myself twice saying someone was trying to to break in and kill me and my father. They showed me it wasn't real and calmed me down. I work in special education. There are people who are capable of both verbalizing their inner thoughts and simultaneously verbalizing their reaction to real-time events around them. The events will cause immediate verbalizing of new internal thoughts. When upset or agitated this goes fast and there’s not a lot of time to do it as “sensibly” or smoothly as they’d do when calm. The physical aggression aspects of it is something else entirely. It’s sad. Would’ve benefited from a mental health crisis team and an environment for folks like him. Work gradually on helping him cope and manage himself.

We’ve got some state ran mental institutions in my state and I wouldn’t want my dog housed there.I have a friend in one,5 nurses for 250 patients. She could walk when she got there but they over medicate and slap a diaper on them so they STAY in the bed.She had the same clothes on for a month and when washed, the water looked muddy not to mention her and her roommate have had lice for over a month…bruises on both of them when they can’t even get out of the bed. They’ve been reported and nothing has happened to help these poor people…sad!

@@jeanmcginnis9804 I am sorry. It must be devastating to know they are getting such a horrid level of care. Some nursing homes are similar. We need better access to mental health care. And good places for people to get treatment until the meds kick in.

Yes insanity is very poetic. I think the mind tends to leap about trying to make sense of itself and thats kind of how poetry works. It an effort to make sense of the suffering and can be strangely beautiful.
