In 1967, New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison made international headlines when he boasted "I have solved the assassination" of President John F. Kennedy. Garrison alleged that Clay Shaw, a prominent New Orleans businessman and former director of the International Trade Mart, had conspired with others to plot JFK's death in Dallas in 1963. Shaw was acquitted in his 1969 trial, yet at the time almost universal reaction to Garrison's charges was "he must have something."
