There are times, especially when discussing social issues, where Spike Lee can become adversarial, to the point where he comes off as aggressive, but he always speaks constructively and intelligently. I just think some folks have a hard time with the passion he can inject in his dialog, and that has given him a reputation of being stern and maybe unapproachable. But Lee's the kind of guy that if you ever bumped into him on the streets of NY, he'd acknowledge you and maybe even have a chat if he had time. He's an amazing human being, and an unbelievable contributor to the film industry. I only wish he made more movies.

One thing I've always liked about Spike is the fact that he's always given zero fucks what anybody thinks about him, and he continues to speak truth to power even to this day----watch what he said at the Cannes Film Festival last year about a certain idiot in the W.H.

Really grateful to hear this 10 minutes of conversation. Spike was right, this guy knows cinema and specifically seemed to know Spikes stuff. Then, wow! he studied Spikes work in Uni! How brilliant to have someone that knows something about your body of work to ask intelligent questions and be genuinely interested. Whereas in the US the interviewer would only as some polarizing questions about the latest work because he couldn't properly understand it on any deep level and racial polarity sells in America. @@gibskeinspass3743 Which ending? The point where it should have ended or the extra one sided out of context BS they piled in afterwards? Blackkklansman was a great movie pretty much ruined by forcing a singular point of view down the throats of the audience through its opening and closing scenes. The actual film does a good job of showing how pointless blind hate and the inability to compromise can be, and how such attitudes aren't just on one side of the fence. The ending scene illustrates this, where the female lead tells the male lead that she can't be with him because he is a cop (and therefore bad), despite him doing far more for the cause she proclaims to stand for than she did. This film shows the reality that people of the same mindset exist on both sides, and the problem isn't simply white racism and intolerance, but also intolerance and hate on the part of black people as well. That message is completely undermined and ruined by those first and last scenes of the film where the focus is entirely on white racism and nothing else. The ending may be powerful, but the message is both forced and bad one.

I MF LOVE Inside Man. That was the first Spike Lee joint I actually saw as a kid. My dad and I would watch movies like that during my summer breaks from school

Ali plumb is the best interviewer I know. I think British interviewers are real journalists. they understand the fact that they should let the person they talk to thrive. every guest Ali has had seems really at ease and comfort. on the other hand, we have American style of interviewing. Howard Stren is the leading figure in this. they just talk and talk and the guest just has to say yes or no. its fucking bullshit and distressing.
