So many pro athletes don’t have impressive lifts. Goes to show there’s more to strength than squat bench and deadlift

@@lonerunner89that’s still impressive for somebody who probably very rarely benches. Give him 3 years and he hits its for 20

There was a time I was 250 lbs bodyweight. I could bench 335. Squat 425 atg without knee wraps or a belt. Deadlift 425 with a regular grip without wraps. (Nothing impressive in terms of powerlifting but very good for an average guy.) my father couldn’t even bench 200 lbs and I doubt could’ve squatted anything impressive or deadlifted it. But, him and I got into a fun pushing kinda match like sumo I guess and we were caught in a stalemate. All he had was years of construction work and he was able to hold his ground. I am in his position more now. I workout still but more for longevity and work a labor intensive job. I weigh 200 now. The other day I tested my grip strength and core strength with a 185 lb suitcase deadlift (one hand, one side, no wrap) and was able to pick it up and hold it for 20 seconds. This is without any training of this particular exercise. When I was 250, I could only hold 135 in my hand for 30 seconds and that was with training it.

Negative. Heavy squats you suck in one big breath and tighten your core throughout the lift, and then you exhale when the lift is over. It is one of the lifts where you don't breathe throughout. Any powerlifter worth their salt does it this way.

No way my 17 year old friend was telling the truth when he said he squats 3 plates at 155 and chicken legs

I mean he might be telling the truth. I was fairly skinny in high school and was squatting 405 at 150. Granted I do not have chicken legs and most of my weight is in my legs but still.

You'd think Nick would've brought a belt at least. Especially on the doggone deadlift. They almost topped out at 500lbs! Not great for your back without a belt.
