I love how real you guys are. Prejudice against people with dark skin is a huge problem in Arab and Asian countries, or anywhere that has been touched by imperialism. I've had to deal with it a lot in my life. I moved to Egypt when I was 12 to study Quran and Arabic and I was surprised by how mean and racist a lot of the people were. I couldn't go a day without someone calling me names or making fun of my dark skin. Many of us call ourselves Muslims but forget the basic principle that no one man can exceed another in the eyes of Allah except by what they carry in their hearts. I pray inshallah that one day the umma will come together again.

I live in Somalia and girls bleach their skin like they're putting on lotion. It's sad because because my dark skin is seen as ugly and people will tell me to my face how dark I am and how i should whiten my self. Honestly I experienced less hate and racism when I was living in England. I know it's really hard but please don't ever give in to others peoples pressure. If they feel comfortable telling you you're physically ugly....tell them they have have an ugly soul and maybe they should whiten their dead black heart. You don't need to use man made products because God created you and that alone should let you know you are perfect the way you are.

Growing up as Pashtun all my family are light skinned wether it's my mum, dad, brothers cousins etc... I'm not dark skinned but I'm slightly tanned. I was a very fair baby growing up but as I got older I got darker. All I ever hear now is 'your so yellow', 'you were so white as a kid' bla bla bla.... I don't get bullied or shamed for it but it is used against me as a diss a lot and my brothers always get praised for being light skinned. It never bothered me before but the older I got the more insecure about my skin colour I got. A lot of Pashtuns are light skinned, with green or blue eyes, it's one of the things there known for, and to be a tanned Pashtun with brownish green eyes isn't good enough. I always as a 'joke' get told I'm not Pashtun I'm too dark. In Sha Allah I hope this infectious thought that the only fair girls are pretty leaves the Earth because it's been around for too long now.

I always find it fucked up how people with darker skin want to get lighter and people with white skin are obsessed with getting tanned. How about we just stop obsessing about our skin colour? Skin is skin, who cares what colour it is. Next thing we're gonna be bleaching our eyeballs cause they're not white enough 😠
@karmakameleon113
7 жыл бұрын
Melanie Avans Dark skinned people of color wanting to be light skinned and white people wanting to be tan are not the same thing and can't be compared. When people of color want to be light it comes from shame. They basically want to be white. White people, on the other hand, get tans simply because they don't want to be pasty- they don't actually want to be as dark as the people of color who are trying to look like them. They enjoy getting a little tanned because they know they'll never get THAT dark and they'll still look white. They would never trade places with dark skinned people of color but the dark skinned people would gladly trade places with them.
@karmakameleon113
7 жыл бұрын
Melanie Avans It's naïve to tell people to simply stop obsessing over the color of their skin when racism and shame are deeply ingrained in their societies. You can't just erase centuries of hate... I'm guessing you're white yourself and don't actually experience this problem.

I think this is one of the main reasons why Islam teaches men and women to cover and lower the gaze and refrain from seeing or doing any sexual acts so that when they eventually get married and have sex the male or woman isn't really judging their husband or wife's body or skills on someone else...so it gives them abit more confidence because they don't really have anyone to compare themselves to...I dunno it's just a thought and to add *HE AINT SHIT*

Uma Abdi I have so many questions (I'm not Muslim, btw): how are Muslim men supposed to receive education if they're not allowed to even discuss sex or sexuality before marriage?... Are Muslims allowed to take sex education classes in school?? Also, if men and women aren't supposed to discuss sex with each other then that leaves the men to educate other men about women's bodies, which obviously is not being done properly or there wouldn't be so much ignorance about the female body. These are just my opinions (and not even coming from a very educated place lol). What does Islam say about this?

This was actually the most disgusting question. How sad a life must one be living to think human beings cannot have beauty because of a darker skin complexion? All that anti-blackness and colorist views within our communities are so toxic. It destroys the fragile self-confidence within our young girls. They grow up not seeing the beautiful, intelligent, and amazing human beings they are, myself included. I'm Somali and we deal with this all the time. From Whites, Asains, Arabs, and even our own Somali community. I know this is a "progressive" era we're living in, but these views are so built into our system and for some of us our blood. It's easier for people who are fairer or lighter in complexion not to think this is such a problem embedded in our communities, but for those of us who are in this position, there's no such thing as forgetting because it's in our face every single day. Maybe one day people will unlearn these horrible habits and views and gain a little perspective.

I don't like the word "suffer" when talking about hyper pigmentation. It's kinda ridiculous. People suffer from cancer, from diabetes, from hunger. Having any area of your body a slightly darker colour than the rest of your body is not you suffering. It's just how you are, how everyone is. Damn. I love how we've all fallen into the trap corporations have set for us, insta baddies, pornography, Western beauty standards. All to make us run to these big companies and brands and spend our hard earned money. What the actual fuck.

I have heard of people bleaching their genitals and the bleach has burnt their skin because of the sensitivity down there.the skin bleaching is a lot stronger than fair and lovely. It is quite sad but I have heard horror stories of people having scar tissue there because of the trauma from the burns. Women and men please be careful don't succumb to societies unrealistic expectations.

Sid was soooooo right about Asian/Middle Eastern culture... the lowkey ideology that people have when they say "wow you have fair skin, so beautiful". Even at home, my parents weren't born here so they do carry the same ideas with them. I have more coloured skin than my sister (she's very fair) and my mom was like "she's light, she's so beautiful"... it's crazy

UMMM O.K this is simple HUN this isn't his bit of REAL ESTATE it's yours. Love your body if he's not happy with this please don't make it your problem. Other than that do as Sid and Dina suggested offer his up on a plate to go first. Also do know white skin women have darker pubic areas too.

Hey Sid & Dina, thanks for highlighting this topic because it's too prevalent in Black culture and Asian culture it can't be perpetuated any longer. As Sid said "Dark is Not Ugly". Thanks for drawing attention to this because it really is a problem and people are being put down all the time for having dark skin, a genetic trait that is natural that you can't control. I love you two and your advice, you guys are brilliant!
