i spent 1 year on my cabin cruiser out on the north coast of BC in my younger days making a living as a cartage boat for all the native villages. I would encourage u guys to visit the great bear rain forest if u would ever like to show Steph some your home provinces more remote areas Travis. Cheers, be safe

Steph, you may want to try rubbing apple cider vinegar on your bug bites. For many people the vinegar really helps to stop the swelling and itch. Also if the inside of your boat has an odor you want to get rid of, leave a bowl of apple cider vinegar out and the vinegar will absorb the odor. You can also use the vinegar to wipe down your boat to control mold and mildew.

I recommend you get some professional advice on how to go about fixing that forward keel bolt. The void exposing the keel bolt is of concern, and it's repair done correctly from a safety perspective, and to prevent more expensive repairs longer term. If you pour epoxy into the keel bolt hole, you'll be in a world of trouble if you ever need to drop the keel in the future. You suggested running a 4200 beed along the keel joint and glassing over that. Fiberglass will not stick to 4200. Suggest you use Gflex (a more flexible type of epoxy) or something similar. As for torquing your keel bolts, there is lots of debate, but you can do that on the hard or in the water. While on the hard, loosen your stands by about 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch. When you torque the boat itself will be pulled down to the keel. Start with the center keel bolt and work your way forward and aft on each bolt one at a time. Check your stands and repeat. A torque multiplier will help. Also, don't torque maximum in one go... knowing the torque for each bolt (based on size) is needed. recommend you get some local or otherwise advice from a professional.

When I have to work outside and it's really hot if I have access to fresh water I hose myself down wearing my outside clothes (shorts and T-shirt) as the water evaporates off your clothes it keeps you cool. Now, this may seem a step too far but it works. I have worked in Southern Egypt in the summer and at night it was still well over 100F. The power went off at about 11:00PM so no fan or air conditioning (yeah right). In a moment of madness one night, I literally flung my sheets into the shower got them soaking wet climbed back into bed and pulled them over me...guess what blissful sleep. If the wet sheet isn't avalable or you don't fancy it soaking a clean T-shirt works but not as well, it has to be wet, not damp for it to work.

We've been using aloe vera gel on bites (actually on everything to do with skin) and it works. Try it.

Try taking an over the counter Allergy med that contains an antihistamine every day, it will lessen the effects of those bug bites much better than anything you apply after the bite. It works for me at least.

If you took the 50Hz AC and converted it to DC to charge your batteries, you could then convert that to 60Hz AC to power your tools.

You need picaridin based insect spray. Army tested it and it worked best against noseeums. Also, taking an antihistamine will help with your existing bites.

Why didn't you fix all this stuff when you were at Port Credit and avoid the hassle of doing it in a foreign land where prices are jacked, and people to help? ~ Andrew from Rhapsody that was docked behind you. Hey! Awesome that Keith shared our channel with you 😀 This haul out was needed as regular maintenance. We had to haul out for bottom paint primarily. We had fresh bottom paint and the keel smile had been repaired before we took possession of the boat but after 4000 nm, its in need of some love!

just attach a 30 usd battery charger to the batteries and use your inverter to power the tools. In the future if you need to buy a new inverter take one that supports 110/220v 50/60Hz.

Keels fall off !! Once you get a little water in there as you have and there is no oxygen you get whats called crevice corrosion in the keel bolts and they break and the keel falls off . That is a very bad day at sea , it happens more times then you think.

I’ll fill that void with 5200 for a better seal. The problem when using epoxy on the keel joint is if you ever need to drop the keel, is going to be a pain in the @ss and some de lamination might occur to the hull. Then, the smile repair should be done with West System G-Flex. As the name states, it flexes and the smile shouldn’t come back. No need to use fiberglass….

I have H42 Passage as well (hull #95). Keel has never been removed and it has similar 'smile'. Will be curious if your repair is the solution. Guess won't know until next haul out :). Love your adventure.

You need s flexible seal. Use 5200 on it. It’s not the whole seal so keel will still come off if you ever need it to. All bolt on keels flex s little.

guys, its not the frequency but the voltage you need worry about! Power thats 50hz is normally 200 volts which will certainly fry your 110v North American electrical/electronic gear. your best bet is a step down transformer 220v to 110v.

Putting 4200 in crack is not good fiberglass will not get good adhesion , use thicken epoxy put in there then use 1708 glass over it

I would contact hunter and make sure the right bolts were used and that void was not intentional. Also, next time you need to repair the keel or any cracked fiberglass for that matter you definitely want to layer on fiberglass in increasing wider strips of chop strand. I.e. a 2" stip on the first layup, and 4" strip on the second, 6" on the third, etc. The trench you dug out with the grinder is not going to provide for any real strength in the repair. Bolt on keels scare the $#(&* out of me personally.
