You don't like playing screw shots its because of your cue action id love to coach u as u obviously have talent and are an excellent break builder but with a better cue action would be so much better and I could make break building a lot easier a little technical difference id make to your game gl to u im a coach based in Essex by the way

Well thanks, I think when making that video id previously had some bad miscues on screw shots so was very tentative on them there. Not enough follow through on most of them. I was never a player who needed a massive backswing and pause (unlike many of todays pros) to generate power. On my best days on a receptive cloth I could pot long reds and screw back to baulk even with my shorter cue action. I'm from Lisburn near Belfast in N.ireland and recently turned 50. My best days in snooker are well behind me, failing eyesight and lack of practice. Thanks for taking an interest Sid👍

Nice break but u keep stunning off the cushion for the black when u don't need to just soft screw would get the white in the sa.e place,also u had a shot on the black were u run it round 2 cushions and u was always on a difficult red which u potted in the middle the shot was a stun left hand side for red in same pocket as black . But good break and good luck to u if I was coaching u id improve your game bye at least 30 points I'd improve your cue action so u would actually enjoy playing some shots im sure your avoiding gl to u m8

I was thinking , looking at you play your very still at the cue ball with not much feathering also the selection of power on each shot to get the white where you need, tips and taps and angles seem rearly consistent, I’ve had a 9.5 tip 19.1oz 58”for a while now and it’s always in my head that I’m not getting use to it, last week I bought a cheap price to clear £30 10mm cue 18.6oz 57” rearly good cue for price and I’ve noticed how better I’ve been potting in practice feeling alot more comfortable hitting the centre of the white and slight sides bottom and top, making breaks round the 50 mark which I’ve not done for a long time, you don’t need a long back swing just medium will do to push the white round the table, that old saying less is more and it works fine,keep the vids coming I’ve learnt a lot in a short time, keep them coming thanks 👍

andy singleton It's around 57 inches and 24 Oz, far too heavy for most players but I messed around getting weight added to it years ago and it suits me now. It's not a great cue though and I've bought others through the years but always came back to this one. Most of these videos were made a few years ago. I've stopped making them now but there is one more which I haven't made public yet. Thanks for the interest.

So talk us through your cue action here. Never seen one so short, but you seem so effective. Did you shorten it? Was it always this short? Have you tried longer? If it's not broke don't fix it? What's the story? Cool video!
@bottlecap57
4 жыл бұрын
It is on the short side but I think the camera angle makes it appear shorter than it really is. I've tried longer but it gets to a point where I lose control of the cue and I've always had cue power so I don't really need a longer action.

WTH you just cleared up and done a break of 136 on a basic snooker table without heated slate and all the modern stuff they add to the TV tables. Why the hell aren't you trying to qualify for the snooker tournaments since they changed the rules to qualify about 2 years ago? That was amazing and some of the shots were tough ones I've watched all the torments yearly for like 25 years and have tried to play and used to practice a lot but I was total shit at the game.

@bottlecap57
7 жыл бұрын
Sometimes its not just stance which causes the problem but try to keep the back leg straight and in line with the shot. You could also try cueing with the cue brushing your side throughout the shot as it can help keep it on line. Above all stay as still as possible on the shot.

noticed that you have very short backswing you are a good player, can you share some tips to improve cuing?
@bottlecap57
7 жыл бұрын
Yes my backswing is a little shorter than I would like but a very long one isn't ideal either. Cueing is different for each player. Some take a lot of swings before striking the ball while others keep the cue very still and really only take one swing. Some players let the cue brush their side while cueing thinking this will keep the cue on line. Its important not to grip the cue too tight and to stay as still as possible on the shot. Any head movement tends to move the cue offline. Practice hitting the cueball up and down the middle of the table over the spots. Its a great way of finding how straight you are cueing.

Not bad. Need to do some work on your back-swing tho. Far too short. You should be drawing back to your bridge. Make the cue do the work. Other than that, pretty good.
@bottlecap57
7 жыл бұрын
I've always had a powerful cue action so a shorter swing than some is enough for me to generate the power required. I will only lengthen it when a shot requiring full power is needed. I've seen too many club players missing easy shots due to their overly long backswings. They suffer a loss of accuracy due to deceleration amongst other things. Some notable pros have shortened their swings in recent years also. ---It all comes down to whatever works for the individual.
