Hi Nick!. I have been following every video you have posted and shared them with other Tbird enthusiasts. I have admired your commitment to stay true to the originality of the car from the very beginning and hearing from the owner that he wanted to make this huge esthetic change breaks my heart. Of course you have to comply to the requests.. but what a change!!!. The while car looks different once the headlights are on. I do appreciate all the work that went into the modifications ... but at the end, the car looks off. This is just my personal opinion and does not take away the awesome work you have done on the car's restoration. Keep on sharing these amazing and very informative videos. You have a strong follower here.

Hey Luis, thanks for the response. I agree with you and usually I do not make modifications but I decided to do it this time because I agree with them that the headlights are subpar and not very bright relative to modern headlights. These people will be traveling the country in this car and I felt that it was probably a good idea to have decent headlights that not only light up the road but can also signal other planets. They are pretty bright to say the least. I'm sure the customers will be thrilled. Thanks.

I agree with Luis, I would definitely not make this mod on my '65. But maybe the owner has issues with night vision and had no choice. One possible alternative solution for night vision problems might be new prescription eyeglasses. Not trying to be flippant or trivialize the owner's concerns. I can drive for hours during the day without glasses, but at night time my glasses noticeably improve my vision while driving, and I didn't notice it til I got a new prescription. I can really tell the difference. It's like "night and day"!! :) Seriously, though.

@@kayeninetwo3585 Hey Kaye Nine Two, I dont mine the mod since nothing important was changed, just the individual headlight bucket itself which is easily replaced. Also, they are kind of growing on me. I think they are kind of cool. Would I put them on my Thunderbird? No. But I'm okay with them on someone elses car. They sure do light up the road, no denying that. Thanks.

Thanks Mark. It took me a week to work all this out. I started with earlier headlight buckets (from a 64 Thunderbird) because I had watched a video where the guy modified those and I thought there was no way I could make the 66 buckets work but I came to my senses and realized that the 66 buckets were easily modified and worked great. Good luck with your upgrade.

Hey Kevin, no worries mate. They are not for everyone. I did what they asked and for a good reason since they will be driving around the country and wanted better headlights to see dark roads better. I can understand that. At least it is easy to reverse since nothing important was modified. Thanks.

Halogens are bright enough looking forward in my 65, but completely hopeless at lighting sharp corners that I need to turn into at night. Did the LEDs help peripheral vision?

Hey Garrett, I just installed these silly headlights and have not driven the car at night. I was going to do it tonight after I aligned them but a few of the mounting/adjustment screws broke and now I have to take everything apart and replace those. They were new from the auto parts store. Crappy Chinese parts!!! So I don't know just how bright they will be. Ill keep you informed. Thanks.

Another option that I think would have been better is the dapper lighting 575 lights. They are slim and designed to go in with no modification, and made out of glass not polycarbonate. They also have an OE glass option that make it look more stock but they are LED projectors. The only thing about these lights is you need about an extra 1.5in of depth clearance and I'm not sure there's more room behind the buckets.
@vintagethunderbirdrepair9426

Hey Storm, I think that is a great suggestion and I will look into those. That thing on the back of the head light might require a modification of the bucket but I had to do that anyway. Worth trying it to find out. Thank you.

Hi Nick. Juraj from Slovakia again. Thanks for all these great videos you are doing. I haven’t seen any on the sequential turn lights yet so here is my question. On my ‘66, only 2 of 3 turning lights are constantly flashing and the outer ones do light up only occasionally in the sequence. I have access to the motor and relay in the pack. Is there any chance to make the sequence work properly without buying a new part? Many thanks in advance for your kind reply. Best regards,. Juraj
@vintagethunderbirdrepair9426
2 жыл бұрын
Hey Juraj, sorry for the very late reply, I did not see your comment until now. You can clean the parts and contacts and see if it works better. The sequential relay, the big silver square thing with all the wires, you can take that apart and clean the contacts. Ive done that and it has helped. You can also do that with the sequential motor too. See if that works. Again, sorry for the late reply.

Really nice workmanship! Kind of a purist myself but 100% understand that this car will be driven and enjoyed. Unless it’s a “preserved” example, I say do what you got to do so it can be driven safely next to modern cars. Consider a high mount stop light if they haven’t already. People are programmed to look for them and may not stop in time.

Hi nick Have u ever had an issue where u have hi beams but no low beams on a halogen headlight?
@vintagethunderbirdrepair9426
Жыл бұрын
Hey Scoutprop, I don't think I've ever had that exact issue before. I don't deal with halogens much either since most Thunderbirds have regular head lights. Usually if the head lights don't work, its the head lights themselves but if both your low beams don't work and the head lights are okay, then maybe your switch is bad? Check the wiring and grounds too. Its not uncommon for low beams to go bad. Good luck.

@@novanogo07 Yes and no. That part will work for the defroster and drivers side heater door but the passenger side heater door motor is weird with offset mounts and a curved arm. You need to get creative to make a new motor fit into that position. Fortunately for the car I just restored, that motor was okay so I just kept the used one.
