Great review! Sorry, just a little safety message for eveyone if you're using a system that has ICS tips like this but without ANR (I guess do it as well anyway). I want you all to make sure you wear hearing protection properly. Tinnitus can be a killer for aviators! Make sure you squash the tips by rolling them like into a snake before inserting, you need to hold the tip of top of your ear with your opposite hand and pull up slightly to open the ear canal as you place them in. Then lastly hold the ICS in until the foam expands to fill the ear canal :-) This is also a basic thing to do with any foam insert hearing protection. I really hope you get back to flying soon!!!!!!!! Keep up the great work.

Great topic. The other aviation channel I follow hasn't done this... I don't think. I appreciate the informative review of noise cancellation types specifically. I am really afraid of the ATC work I will need to learn because I have a hard time processing words when there is background noise let alone poor dictation. Every aspect of clarity is important for me. Light weight is cool. On my few flights I've had I have only used the over ear Bose devices which are great but are expensive and I dream of wearing an awesome cowboy hat when flying (side story my love for choppers likely started with my youth watching MASH. There is an episode of a chopper pilot in a cowboy hat. Flying a Bell 47 with my hat and doors off is a dream!) so having the type of non over head band looks great. Just wonder if it works well in the "whop whop whop" in a whirlybird.

I see this is a few years old, so I am not sure you are monitoring it. I have worn A-20s for years and love them for sound and clarity. But one thing I hate is the tension, which also flattened my hair. In fact, my barber told me that my hair was thinning in the same place as the head band. I found a way to take the pressure off. Now that the new Bose earplugs have come out, I debated getting them (any input on that, Emilie?). But after watching your video I am now thinking seriously about Clarity. Guess I will have to try them both on a trial. Thanks for all the great information. Actually, just took a nice gig flying the Vision Jet (the engine on top), so will be interested in how Clarity and Bose compare. Fly safe and enjoy (glad you got back - I got furloughed during Covid like you. I was a Captain and started doing charters to fill in. Now I kind of like it - a lot. But sure missing KCM and CAS :-( )

Emilie: I've heard some ATC and ground radio. Sometimes those guys seem to speak either chesty or nosey, how do you cope with those kind of voices? At this point I figure both parties - transmitter and receiver - must have crystal clear headsets, plus a foreign accent like Scandinavian, Hindu, Latin or Chinese. Is it challenging, sometimes, for you pilots to get the message? Thanks!

Because you mentioned it, I use the clarity aloft as a CFI in a C172, and they work great for me. Hi Emilie! About music, I thought pilots were not allowed to listen to it during flights. But I'm glad I was wrong. Otherwise in long flights pilots would get bored. About the clip, I actually have a similar style of headphones, I use them when I go jogging and the clip helps a lot to balance the rink behind my neck also it prevents the cable from rubbing against my shoulders and back. Oh crap! This reminds me that I have to start exercising again! Great Video!

Ahahha good reminder! Keep in mind, every operator and country has their own rules/regulations. I'm only describing my experience personally! Awesome video, thank you for posting! I've got lots of experience with David Clark, Bose, Sennheiser, Telex, and ear sticks. All I can tell you is that once you try "active" noise reduction, you'll never go back to passive NR. You're young, I'm sure your hearing is still excellent. If you want to keep it that way, I would highly recommend going to an ANR headset. Not only does it protect your hearing, but it also makes a full day of flying much less fatiguing. There are times I forget to turn on the ANR ( I shut off on ground to save battery), and when I turn on the ANR inflight, I can instantly feel my entire body relax. SO much easier to hear and understand ATC. (Especially those Canadians with French accents! HA!) Currently, I use the DC Pro-X with Bluetooth and I couldn't recommend them more. The BT is a true Godsend when you've got a MX issue, you're on the phone with Dispatch, and you can throw on your headsets and have a quiet conversation despite the chaos around you with FAs, your FO, the gate agent, the ops agent, and your ground personnel. The Bose A20s are also great, just pricier and a bit heavier on your head and ears. But I must concede that if I had any hair anymore, the Clarity Alofts would be the best at not messing up the "do".

I feel so Old-School with what I dealt with back when I did most of my flying, personally and professionally. I just had a mic I talked into, which I had to always pick up from its holder whenever I wanted to speak and then put it back when I was done. Also, I only had the airplane speakers to listen through. Old times. But that was back in the day when I would fly a General Aviation airplane into a controlled airport and was able to taxi up to the terminal to either drop someone off or park, and then walk right into the terminal with no security or any hassle. By the time I got my Commercial and Instrument, the planes had nicer headsets and mics, and that was a great relief, and I probably appreciated that more than anybody else.

you need to do more unboxing videos :D "Pilot Emilie does unboxings series" :P
Excellent review. My only concern is how my sunglasses would sit with these. I guess a thinner style frame would fit better. Unfortunately I live in the Caribbean with no aviation headset stores where I could experiment. Keep up the positive content💪🏾,

Sunglasses fit better with these. There are no over the ear pads to squish the sunglasses frame to the side of your head. Very comfortable. I have had mine for 3 years.
