My income should have no relevance to the cost of my health insurance. My premiums exceed $2000/month and I’m completely healthy. Those commercials of people saying they have a plan for $53/month infuriates me!! This is back door redistribution of wealth and simply evil.

I'm a USA citizen living in Taiwan. I pay ~$25USD/month for Health Insurance in TW. Crazy part: Out of pocket/no health insurance costs are extremely cheap still with the quality of care being equivalent to care given in USA. (I'm a licensed Healthcare provider in the USA) Example: I had no insurance. Got hurt. Went to the emergency room on a Saturday night to get X-Rays, medicine, physician assessment...it cost me ~$60USD without health insurance. Conclusion: insurance and administration jobs are rolling in the money at the cost of Healthcare providers & patients.

Totally agree, I have seen such outrageous prices this year on the monthly premiums and deductibles. That’s why I advise my clients to take a look at private options as they are based on health not income. Inflation is gradually going to become part of us and due to that fact any money you keep in cash or in a low-interest account declines in value each year. Investing is the only way to make your money grow and unless you have an exceptionally high income, investing is the only way most people will ever have enough money to retire.

Based on your income and assets, you may qualify for Medicaid. The criteria can pretty stringent though. If you are not eligible for Medicaid, marketplace plans only look at your income (not assets) to determine your eligibility for premium tax credits. Under the Inflation Reduction Act, you will likely be eligible for a significant premium tax credit which could give you a significant discount.
