How can wind noise affect your hearing aids and hearing properly through them? When you hear the wind in your ears, a 20 MPH is as much as 80dB SPL. It goes up by as much as 5dB per every 10 MPH. What happens when someone hears 60MPH? It’s very loud. Could it create hearing damage? Only if you were in that noisy place for hours upon hours. But hearing in a windy place creates a lot of problems to be able to understand people talking. This is normal for a perfect hearing person. In a noise study I completed, people with the noise 5dB less than the speech understood no better than 80% of the words with perfect hearing. People with some significance of hearing loss in their ears would hear no better than 60% of the words. All misunderstand in noisy places.
