Nancy's voice is so beautiful here and she did a great job! Don't know why this didn't go to no. 1. Love the sisterly love at the end. :-) I could always tell when Nancy was singing lead because her voice is softer. Both women are amazing and have great voices.

Sadly ,when you don't get over it's always a mess! If you hang on the past you'll never move forward .. sadly as I said because I'm still in love with a girl who was in the past but I dont talk to or see anymore,its just a memory... I completly understand the song and the toughness of letting go... Broken hearts are eveywhere but we have to move from thos ghosts. Good luck to all the people who still suffers from heartaches! Gotta move on!

I focus so much on "These Dreams"...that I kinda forgot about this one. I say KINDA because I was watching a 1987 compilation and soon as this came on I was INSTANTLY transported back to life in 1987 where this song was everywhere and 7 year old me thought life was so mystical and magical. All songs from 1987 have such a mysterious sound to them.

Great video! Brings back tons of memories of that "certain" someone. I especially like the fact that the video includes a line that the single release does not "...she's setting you up, my friend. She's gonna break your heart again..." The line is so telling and really drives home the point that the narrative from the singer is a cautionary tale and one that reveals her own feelings towards the poor guy who's blinded by his love of a woman who is simply using him. Just beautiful!

I totally agree. I remember listening to this song over and over and torturing myself by listening to it while parked with my buddy in his car and being totally hung up on the wrong girl. Back in '87 after having a one night stand with a girl who I used to go to high school with but when we were in high school together, she liked me but I wouldn't give her the time of day... a couple years later I ran into her at a party and man did she ever grow up and looked amazing! The next day, she was with another guy and told me that she wasn't interested in a relationship with anyone... I guess she got the last laugh. Despite this, the 80's was the best decade ever!

Unfortunately I was to young to understand the who yr thing ect ect. I was born in 88. I started listening to 80s music in about 92 or 93. A lot of different songs and music videos I forgot about. Icwould rather listen to the 80s than 80% of this crap released in the last 20 yrs. This music is a lot better. The very first song I remember I herd I didn't know who sang it but I loved it, I was maybe 5 yrs old. I got a little older and saw the video on VH1. I instantly started to cry when it started. That song was Every Breath You Take by The Police. I still sometimes cry when I hear the song today but I am obsessed with it. When I was younger I would cry even if I was listening to the song on the radio. If I was out somewhere in the store I had to make up an excuse like go to the bathroom just so I wouldn't be crying out in public. I still cry over the song to this day. Heck sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, the song is playing in my mind and I start crying. I was at a wedding 16 yrs ago they had the song on repeat before the wedding started I almost started crying luckily I didnt.

@MasterJediDude
2 жыл бұрын
I can tell you why. I was 17 when this came out and the competition was extremely strong. Not only for radio play, but MTV as well. And every metal and glam-rock band out there had this look and feel. The big hair, the moves/kicks and the synth-backed guitars. It was over-saturation, and for me - a lack of musical education. At first glance, they appear no different from Vixen or other girl bands. It was a few years later when I discovered the 70’s version of Heart and learned about Ann and Nancy. Only then, did I have a full appreciation of their skills and talents.
@gatekeeperboxing5898
2 жыл бұрын
@@MasterJediDude I also discovered their 70's stuff later too, some of which is their best work IMO. This song is better than These Dreams which charted higher in the USA, although in the UK These Dreams only charted at 62 alot lower than There's The Girl at 34. Generally though I prefer the more uptempo songs to the Ballads that seemed so popular in the 80's.

Does anyone else think when they see Ann and Nancy how gorgeous their mom must have been? Two amazing,beautiful,talented ladies! I know we wax nostalgic about the old days,simpler times and all that, but I'm just glad the music got made for us and future generations to enjoy.

You're a polished diamond Now you're feeling kinda rough Yes I know how long you've been searching For the perfect touch You better hear what I say I can tell your eyes are just about to give you away Cause there's the girl that you were after Feel your heart beating faster now There's the girl you were after Can you say that you don't want her anymore (oh oh oh waoh waoh oh oh oh) Just take my word now Cause you know it's true She ain't good enough For the likes of you You better hear what I say I can tell your eyes are just about To give you away Cause there's the girl that you were after Feel your heart beating faster now There's the girl that you were after And all the time you can't get past her There's the girl that you were after Broken glass, complete disaster There's the girl that you were after Can you say that you don't want her anymore (waoh waoh oh oh oh woah woah oh oh oh waoh waoh oh oh oh) I believed you once When you explained That it wasn't so tough To forget her name Cause there's the girl that you were after Feel your heart beating faster now There's the girl that you were after And all the time you can't get past her There's the girl that you were after Broken glass, complete disaster There's the girl that you were after Can you say that you don't want her anymore (waoh waoh oh oh oh woah woah oh oh oh waoh waoh oh oh oh) There's the girl There's the girl...... A lot of us hard core Heart fans from the early days of the 70's always felt that they "sold out" in the 80's with these pop-rock songs, but they were good songs. And Nancy Wilson's moves on stage while playing the guitar were always a joy to watch.
@peterlagunas3391

Artistically, yes, they did sell out but times change and music with it...Ann herself noted that the group's success in the 80s damaged thst flair in her but again provided the means for Heart to continue in other iterations such as the Heartmongers and other projects...

A magical ethereal and phenomenal atmospheric song that was so reminiscent of the magnificent era of the early to mid 1980s. I know the Heart girls didn’t particularly like all the glitz and craziness of these videos. This is a fantastic video that is just a lot of fun. Sure, there’s not much cohesion to it, but I don’t really think that that’s the point. I think it’s more or less a use of imagery to attract your senses and highlight the song. Not all videos have to tell a coherent story. This is just a wonderful usage of different images that provide a sensory explosion to this fantastic song. Bravo!
