What if I told you, perfection isn't what makes something great? Jimmy Page is making sounds people hadn't really heard very much at the time with an instrument that hadn't had an electric version for very long in terms of generation. This, was all new and spectacular to alot of people I would think. Personally I find the perfection of produced music makes it sound fake and shallow more often than not, unfortunatly alot of people are spoiled by this and bash on live performances when there is human error involved.

He had his own art style, if people wanted to understand it or not was not his problem, and that’s what makes an artist a great artist

Best years from '70 to '73 IMO until they played in Madison Square Garden [the movie The Song Remains The Same] may have been their peak. I think they didn't play in '74, some accidents and a break, then from '75 onward the drugs kicked in. Page wasn't the same and started to slow down and play sloppy. Plants voice also went down hill a bit. I just saw a 12 minute video of Page I really like playing 'White Summer' (Live at Royal Albert Hall 1970)

depends how active you are in playing, and if you're open to the idea of stealing other's content or not.

let me explain why. Manny people praise this solo because steve vai said it to be his main influence, but his shredding here is really sloppy. I know it is not suppose to be clean at all, I'm just saying. I am not really impressed with this feat, but to each his own. I like more melodic stuff.

People need to understand the era and context in which Page was making music. There were few virtuoso guitarists around when Zeppelin got started, and Page laid the blueprint for hard rock and metal. He introduced people to a huge range of possibilities on the guitar and sounds they hadn't heard before--heavy riffs, exotic tunings, playing with a bow, the Echoplex, theremin, etc. Plus, he was the prototypical guitar hero. Few guitarists of that era had his stage presence or charisma.

This is my favorite video on youtube. Jimmy page inspired me to play the guitar... i used to watch this video all the time and just think about how much it sucks i was born in 97'. I know many kids my age who don't appreciate Led Zeppelin and other rock bands in the late 60's and 70's. And for the people who don't give shit about what music they are listening to and just care how cool the guys on stage look... well.. jimmy page is a total bad ass. In my opinion he is much cooler than Lady Gaga

Always like Jimmy, great in concert but, I don't believe he was ever to duplicate the solo exactly from Led Zeppelin 2 Heartbreaker. He is great at improv and a fantastic showman.

guitarists noawdays use digital, heavy distortion to cheat their way into making their solos sound good. the fact that jimmy can play this solo on a raw and bluesy tone and hit all the right notes shows how great of a guitarist he is.

you should all hope to be this sloppy one day. Bottom line: the world knows who Jimmy page is and can identify his style with one note. Can the rest of you say the same? If not, drop and worship!
